Installation Guide - Real Time (SPOTS V10 Drop 4) Siemens S.A.1 IntroductionThe SPOTS product belongs to the family of Network Management Systems providedby Siemens (ICM N), for the Operation and Maintenance of Mobile Networks (Core,GERAN and UTRAN sub-networks).The SPOTS product integrates the platform (consisting of hardware and standardsoftware) and application software that supports the Performance Management activitieson the Network. The SPOTS V10 application software includes a mandatory Long-Term part and anoptional, additional Real-Time part. The SPOTS V10 Long Term provides performance management analysis capabilities, allowing to produce pre-defined and user-defined reports with Performance Managementindicators based on data periodically collected from the network. The SPOTS V10 Real Time provides near real-time updates of the network performancemanagement information, allowing to define threshold values for PerformanceManagement indicators that result in alarms when they are violated. The optionalmodule SNMP Alarm Agent allows these alarms to be forwarded via SNMP to anexternal application. This document describes the installation procedures for the SPOTS V10 Real-Timeoptional part. These procedures require that the mandatory Long-Term part bepreviously installed. The description of the SPOTS V10 Long-Term installation isprovided in [1].E200301-01-215-V10.0I-04 3 6. Siemens S.A. Installation Guide - Real Time (SPOTS V10 Drop 4)2 General OverviewThe SPOTS Real Time (RT) application for Performance Alarm Monitoring comprisesseveral functional components, grouped into installable software packages according toa Client/Server approach:SPOTS Real Time Server (Solaris packages): SPOTS Real Time Server (SpotsRTS / SRTS) SPOTS Real Time Agency (SpotsRTA) (available also on Windows 2000) SPOTS SNMP Alarm Agent (SpotsSAA / SAA) (optional package)SPOTS Real Time Client (available as Solaris package and on WindowsNT/2000/XP): SPOTS Real Time Client (SpotsRTC / SRTC)The SpotsAS, SpotsNS, SpotsDS components belong to the SPOTS Long-Term (LT)application system. The distribution (and installation) of the SPOTS LT is done separately from the SPOTSRT distribution (and installation). For the SPOTS LT installation procedure, please referto [1]. The SPOTS LT installation always precedes the SPOTS RT installation. The SPOTS RT Server packages (SpotsRTS, and, if applicable, SpotsSAA) mustbe installed on the same machine(s) where the SpotsAS (SPOTS ApplicationServer) Long-Term part is installed. The SpotsRTA package may be installed on the same machine as the SpotsASor/and on a separate Windows 2000 machine to allow the SPOTS load distributiondetails on these configurations are described in sections 4.3.2 and 5.Thus, depending on the SPOTS Long-Term installation that was performed, theSPOTS Real Time Server components may be installed in two differentconfiguration types: Single Server and Distributed details on theseconfigurations are described in [3], Section 1.2 (Environment). The SPOTS RT Client will be installed on each users workstation implementing theSPOTS Real-Time Graphical User Interface (GUI).The SPOTS RT Client (SpotsRTC) is typically installed on the same machine(s) wherethe SpotsCL (SPOTS Client) Long-Term part is installed but this is not mandatory. The SPOTS RT Server components are available on Solaris 8 (release 2/02).The SPOTS RT Agency component is available on Solaris 8 (release 2/02) and onWindows 2000, with Service Pack 3 (or higher). The SPOTS RT Client component is available on the following operating systems: Solaris 8 (release 2/02) Windows NT 4.0, with Service Pack 6a (or higher)6 E200301-01-215-V10.0I-04 9. Installation Guide - Real Time (SPOTS V10 Drop 4) Siemens S.A. Windows 2000, with Service Pack 3 (or higher) Windows XPIt is possible to install the SPOTS RT Client on the same system as the SPOTS RTServer. However, due to performance reasons, intensive usage of RTC in thisconfiguration is not recommended. In a normal operation environment, this SPOTS RTClient configuration is suitable only for sporadic actions (e.g. administrative actions).Complete information about how to install and de-install SPOTS Real Time ispresented, in the current document, from Chapter 4 through Chapter 9.E200301-01-215-V10.0I-04 7 10. Installation Guide - Real Time (SPOTS V10 Drop 4)4.4 Configuration issuesThe configuration procedures described in the next sections must be performed, afterinstallation of the SPOTS RT Software, in order to ensure proper operation of theapplication.4.4.1 Configuring SPOTS RT Agency Software (Solaris environment)In this SPOTS version there can be some RT Agents running in the server machine andothers running on separate machines, for load distribution. However it is advisable tohave all RT Agents running on a separate Windows machine.4.4.1.1 Configuring real_time.cfg filesFor each RT Agent Types running on Solaris system, a specific real_time.cfg file mustbe created and configured. If this file does not exist for a specific RT Agent type the system will assume thatthe specific RT Agents are running on Windows system. After the SPOTS LT installation the SPOTS_DATA environment variable is defined. For further information refer to Annex 1.Under $SPOTS_DATA/traffic_data/ there is a directory for each agent type according tothe following table:Agent types Files directoryCS /cyclicST /sctcHI /hlriQ3 /q3dcSNMP /sprUTRAN /upfBR_OMCB /expBR_RC /asciiGGSN /ggsnMSP /mspInside each one of these directories there is a /cfg sub-directory where it could benecessary to create a configuration file named real_time.cfg. The parameters insidethis file are used by the loader command to transfer the appropriate agent input files tothe right directory. The real_time.cfg file syntax consists in one or more lines with the following format:agency_dir agency_name file_name_filterwhere:agency_dir The RTA installation directory. In case in the RTA installation the default path was accepted thisinstallation directory is /opt/spots/rt. Otherwise it is the installation22 E200301-01-215-V10.0I-04 25. Installation Guide - Real Time (SPOTS V10 Drop 4) Siemens S.A.path selected by the user.agency_name The agency name defined in the RTC.file_name_filter Logical expression that defines a file name filter for the files totransfer. Only the files whose names satisfy the file name filterexpression are transferred by the loader to the agent input running inthe agency defined by agency_name.Note: The file name filter shouldnt contain spaces, and it shouldbe surrounded with quotes. There are several operators that can be used in the file name filterexpression:Operator Usage Returns true if! !op op is false op1op2 op1 and op2 are both true, conditionallyevaluates op2| op1|op2 either op1 or op2 is true, conditionallyevaluates op2Different wildcards are supported:WildcardDescriptionSymbol* Substitutes zero or more characters.? Substitutes one character.Follows a real_time.cfg example for the HI Agent Type:/opt/spots/rt Q_Agency_1 'sc*NE_1*'/opt/spots/rt Q_Agency_2 'sc*NE_2*'In this example two agencies (Q_Agency_1 and Q_Agency_2) are used to process HIdata files (both agencies must be registered in the RTC). With the file name filtersdefined, files from different network elements collecting HI data (NE1 and NE2) will betransferred to different agents running in different agencies. In case SPOTS processes only few data types there can be an advantage in split the dataprocessing of the same type amongst different agencies to benefit from themultiprocessing capabilities of the machine used.Below a real_time.cfg example for the CS Agent Type:/opt/spots/rt H_Agency 'CS*' Edit all the real_time.cfg files and insert the parameters according to theappropriate RTA installation directory, the agency names defined in the RTC (refer toE200301-01-215-V10.0I-04 23 26. Siemens S.A. Installation Guide - Real Time (SPOTS V10 Drop 4)[3] for details registering Agencies) and the file name filters for the files to transfer foreach agent type.4.4.1.2 Adding Real-Time specific variables to sas.cfgIf there is a RT Agency installed in the Solaris environment the sas.cfg file must beconfigured. These RT specific parameters are only used for the RT Agent types that are runningon the Solaris system. In the directory defined by the environment variable SPOTS_DIR (for furtherinformation refer to Annex 1.) there is the SAS configuration file: sas.cfg. This file hasthe syntax exemplified below:# SPOTS Application Server Configuration File[Configuration]NamingServerHost=141.29.139.12NamingServerPort=19980TcpPort=19981DataLoadDir=/var/opt/spots/traffic_dataagency_dir=/opt/spots/rtno_periods_transfer=4no_hours_shift=0The last three parameters are the ones real-time specific:agency_dir The RTA installation directory. In case in the RTA installation the default path was acceptedthis installation directory is /opt/spots/rt. Otherwise it is theinstallation path selected by the user.no_periods_transfer This parameter corresponds to the number of periods that shallbe transferred on the current run.If we want to transfer all the files this parameter is 0.If we want to transfer only some periods, we specify here thatnumber of periods. When the SPOTS RT Agent is stopped for some time, theremay be a large amount of data files not yet to process when it isrestarted again. This parameter provides a way to limit theamount of files to transfer. For example, the data collection process was stopped for 6hours. In case this parameter has value 0, the files related to thelast 24 intervals would be transferred. In case this parameter hasvalue 4 only files related to the last hour will be transferred.no_hours_shift This parameter specifies the number of hours to extend thecurrent time. This should be used whenever processing filesthat have a time later than the SPOTS current time. This is the24 E200301-01-215-V10.0I-04 27. Installation Guide - Real Time (SPOTS V10 Drop 4) Siemens S.A.case of traffic files originated by NE's located in timezonesdifferent from the SPOTS system, where the current time of theNE is later than the current time of SPOTS. In this case thevalue of this parameter should be at least equal to the timedifference between both systems, expressed in hours. Edit the sas.cfg file to specify the RT specific parameters.4.4.1.3 Modifying the RT Agencies default memory (if desired) The default maximum memory available for each RTAgency is 256MB. If the size of the network is large and the RTAs require more memory toprocess the data, try changing the max memory value to 512MB and see if itis enough. To do this, edit the file:/opt/spots/rt/james/profiles/service.propertiesand change the text in bold:# Java Homejdk.home = /opt/spots/rt/jre/bin/java -Xmx512mMake sure that the Spots machine has enough memory. The RTAs work in parallel with all other spots processes!4.4.2 Configuring the events gateway fileThe alarms supported by SPOTS RT are generated by the RT Agents. These alarms aresent to the SPOTS Application Server via a UDP port to the SPOTS Event Gateway. In the directory defined by the environment variable SPOTS_DIR (for furtherinformation refer to Annex 1.) there is the events gateway configuration file: egw.cfg.This file has the syntax exemplified below:# Events Gateway Configuration File## Syntax:# DatabaseServerIDName=UDP_PORT_NUMBER## Ex:E200301-01-215-V10.0I-04 25 28. Siemens S.A. Installation Guide - Real Time (SPOTS V10 Drop 4)# [email protected]=10000DS@cimbalino=10000 Edit the egw.cfg file to specify the database to use to store the alarms information. There is one non-commented line (not starting with #), which identifies the databasewhere alarms are stored and the UDP port that the Application Server listens for alarms. The DatabaseServerIDName used has to be the same as the name given to the propertyServerID on the SDS configuration file sds.cfg - see SPOTS Installation Guide([1]), Annex 4 (Server Configuration Files). If no ServerID property is declared on aSDS, the used SDS ID shall be DS@SDS host, where SDS host is the ownhost name configured on the SDS system (either a simple UnixTM host name, e.g.machineA, or a fully qualified domain name, e.g. machineA.siemens.com).In the example, the database name is identified with DS@cimbalino and the UDP portnumber is 10000.For the alarms there is no need to configure the UDP port number on the RT Agent. When the user configures one RT Agent its domain is configured and thus internallySPOTS passes the related UDP port information from the egw.cfg file to the RT Agent.4.4.3 Modifying the RT Agents default granularity (if desired)For each agent, the granularity is fixed at installation time. The default installationprocedure installs agents prepared for 15 minutes granularity (core network data) and 60minutes granularity (radio access network data). For radio access network data (GERAN and UTRAN), the data production granularitycan be configured at the NE and thus it may be desirable to change the agent defaultgranularity. This section describes the procedure that allows the user, if desired, tooperate an agent type at a different granularity (e.g. change the UTRAN agent type to 15minutes granularity). However, one agent type shall always operate at one single fixedgranularity (the user cannot analyse thresholds at one granularity for somemeasurements and another granularity for other measurements, within the same agenttype). The following steps use the UTRAN agent type as an example (agent_type isUTRAN). An identical procedure may be used for GERAN agent types (in this caseagent_type is BR_OMCB or BR_RC).The new granularity will be set to 15 minutes. Stop the agent in RTC GUI Login as SPOTS user Edit the pdc.properties file to specify the desired granularity:This file is located in /opt/spots/rt/Server_rt/Agent/agent_type/properties(assuming the RTS installation path is the default one i.e. /opt/spots/rt).26 E200301-01-215-V10.0I-04 29. Start the agent in RTC GUI4.4.4 Modifying the RT Bar Chart reports default granularity (if desired)The RT bar-chart reports have the display granularity (time-scope of one bar) hard-coded.The default installation procedure installs bar-charts prepared for 15 minutesgranularity (core network data) and 60 minutes granularity (radio access network data). This matches with the default RT agents granularity. Following the procedure to changethe granularity of the RT bar-chart reports, in case the user changes the granularity of theassociated agent. Modify the report source code (file *.sc) and change in the Request Section thegranularity to the desired one.Chose among the available granularities: FIVE_MINUTES, HOURLY orHOUR_QUARTELY.granularity = HOUR_QUARTERLY;These reports have the string the string _BC.sc in the name and are stored in/opt/spots/reports/src.E200301-01-215-V10.0I-04 27 30. However, due to the way thatyour network is configured, the RT system may not work properly with the selected IP.To overcome this problem you can manually specify which IP number you want RTServer to use.The procedure is the following (assuming the RTS installation path is the default onei.e. /opt/spots/rt):1. Stop the RT processes according to section 9.2. Look for the directory/opt/spots/rt/Server_rt/James/profiles/Managers of the RT Server machine, anddelete all its contents.2. You must edit the manager.properties file on the/opt/spots/rt/Server_rt/James/profiles directory of your RT Server machine, and addthe line:manager.ip = ip_that_rt_should_use3. You must edit the apm.properties file on the /opt/spots/rt/Server_rt/Apm/propertiesdirectory of your RT Server machine, and add the line:java.rmi.server.hostname = rt_server_hostname4. You must edit the MonitorServer.properties file on the/opt/spots/rt/Server_rt/properties directory of your RT Server machine, and add theline:java.rmi.server.hostname = rt_server_hostname5.
