SPACE FACILITIES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

SCIENCE 6

Presented by:RONELYN V. VALEROSO

Teacher-II

Objectives:• IDENTIFIES MODERN SPACE FACILITIES/TOOLS/ EQUIPMENT USED TO STUDY THE UNIVERSE.

• NAME THE MODERN FACILITIES, TOOLS AND INSTRUMENTS USED IN STUDYING UNIVERSE.

How ancient people observed the stars?

Why ancient peoples’ knowledge about the moon, planets and stars were very limited?

Group Activity

Research about the different kinds of instrument/ tools used by the astronomers in studying the heavenly bodies in space.

How these instruments or tools helped the astronomers gather information?

Some Space Facilities, Tools and Equipment

Spectroscope- it is used to analyze starlight.

Telescope – it is used for observing stars. It have different sizes and shapes. They received different amounts of light and radiation

Bigger and better telescopes have helped astronomers discover new heavenly bodies and study more closely those that have already been discovered.

Radio Telescope- a telescope with a metal dish that picks up radio signals in space

Infrared Telescope- launched by rockets to orbit as satellites.

X-ray telescope- are lifted up with the help of very big balloons.

Using Spectroscope- Scientists are able to tell the temperature and chemical composition of a star as well as the amount of light it gives off.

Spectrograph- used to tell not only about starlight but also how fast stars travel.--- tells what chemical substances are found in the star as shown by athe wavelength of the light.
