French explorer Antoine de Bougainville

left Nantes in 1766, and discovered

Tahiti in April of 1768…

He was most impressed with

the health, beauty, and general

demeanor of the people.

Especially the women…

Captain James Cook made several

voyages to the Pacific Islands shortly

thereafter, and was similarly impressed

by these kind, gentle folk, so unlike

the warlike people of Europe…

Huh?!?!

Unfortunately, in Feb. of 1779, a group of these peaceful folk

killed Captain Cook and 4 of his Marines on a beach on the

idyllic island of Hawaii…

The Chiefs then

disemboweled him,

baked him, and

removed his bones, preserving them as a gesture of respect…
