What happens in a hierarchical structure is that someone at the top tries to move the agency but it's like turning the Titanic. EA just isn't that nimble. I respect the fact that John did make some good decisions, but notice the reception for Dead Space 1 and Dead Space 3... Huge difference. It's the same as looking at Capcom and seeing how they created survival horror with Resident Evil and with Six, they didn't just drop the ball, they punted that motherfucker all the way to an action game to compete with Call of Duty. That was a huge misstep. What you're saying about the guns is technically true, but let me give you a different perspective. Faith is a runner. She doesn't have the best hand to hand combat or gun play. She might know how to use them, but why would she keep a gun on her? She's made her life by running. If you're the developer, how would you show that lifestyle choice? And we know they can make gunplay smoothly because Dice has a lot of experience with Battlefield games. I think it fits the narrative of someone that isn't militarily trained to shoot to kill but needs to find the most efficient way out of danger. No worries, I put Valve in here as a contrast from a business perspective. Valve's hierarchy is similar to a co-op, which makes them fairly unique. With 400 employees, they make as much money as EA who has 7000+ employees. Also, their business decisions are motivated by their customers. EA's is motivated by shareholders. So you can see that some of their decisions aren't in the interest of the people that play their games. I have to do a video on that as well as their history eventually. It's just my own laziness keeping me away from it (and one other video in the interim...)
