Proposals Format: I am designing a format of my music magazine creation. I am creating front cover and double page spread for the eclectic music magazine. As, this is a large market project form music magazine, Exclusive, as I need to make the format right for the front cover and double page spread.

Working Title: My working title is “Exclusive” for my music magazine, however I could the name to “E”, so this will be more like my music magazine of inspiration. The font and the colour of my music magazine will be bold, eye-catching and simple, so the target audience can read the title easily. In addition the outline of my title will be black, however the colour gold with fill the inside of my title. The title will be across the magazine at the top.

Genre:My sub- genre of my music magazine will be eclectic. This means that their will be different types of genre like pop, rock, R&B, folks that will be included in my magazine. The reason why have eclectic genre, is because my magazine will attract different audience to read my magazine.

Content:On the double page spread there will be an interview will be contain of my first issue. I will interview with Paloma Faith, who will be answering my question about her music, inspiration and her fashion. Moreover, my music magazine will be released monthly, as Paloma Faith will be featured on the front cover and double page spread, as my first issue. The reason why I have chose a famous artist, not an unknown is because this will create ‘star appeal’- (Richard Dyer), as this will increase the profit of the music magazine, which will make my music magazines successful. Moreover, I will features a puff promotion and use buzzword like ‘free’, ‘exclusives’ and ‘special’, so the magazine will be exciting to read as you may feel like that you will be gain something out of the music magazine.

Style or Approach:The denotation of the colour scheme for the magazine front cover will be red, gold, black and white. The reason why I have chose red to be included in my music magazine is because red is colour of danger and therefore, may target audience could be a bit rebellious, as my magazine could contain swear words during the magazine. Moreover, the reason I have chose gold in my music magazine is because my magazine is like a celebration when buying and reading it, In addition, gold is an exclusive colour, which mean if you have the right amount if money, you can receive the VIP treatment of the exclusive information about my magazine. The reason I have chose white to be included on my colour theme is because white is a fresh and pure colour, as my music is will fresh information about your favourite artist or bands. Also, I have chosen the colour that contrast with white, black, as black is a good colour for texts. I am going to use Photoshop to construct the magazine pages (Front Cover and DPS) because this software have various of tools, which is benefits me has I can edits the main images and the front cover and double pages, so this can makes the music magazine looks professional, so I can make the image look glossy and create the perfect image for my music magazine. Some of the tools in Photoshop that will be particularly beneficial in constructing on the front page will be colour correction, so I can make the main image duller and brighter, touch ups and enhancement, all of these tools will help me to create the main image of the front cover of my first issue of Exclusive.

Audience:The age range that I want to attract my target audience is between the ages of 14-30. The reason why I have choose this ages is because my magazine of inspiration Q magazine, ages range is between 15-30, however, I think that with extending the age range for my music magazine should be aimed at, this reveal that there is information that is suitable with all ages range. The gender that my gender would be more likely to be aiming at is male. This is because for mu magazine of inspiration, Q magazine, the statics connotes that more males read Q magazine than females. Therefore for my music magazine there will be a more male than female that read my music magazine. However, there will be females will still read my music magazine, however this readership will mostly be male. The stereotype that could read my music magazine will be teenagers is that they are all addicted to social media and always on their phones, as they are they are bad and always break the law. Moreover, they teenagers do not know about real music.

Length:I am going to make A4 pages, which will include the front cover and a double page spread for the first ever issue of “Exclusive”.

Frequency:The frequency of my music magazine will be monthly. This is because their will be a higher quality of information in my music magazine. In addition there will be more information in my magazine that will keep, audience interesting as their will included different information about music, artist or bands.

Page 5: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Proposals 2Format: As I decided the format of my music magazine for the front cover and the double page spread. The format of my music magazine will have a pop genre, therefore the format will be best suited for the theme of my music magazine E.

Working Title: As I have decided for my music magazine to be called “E”, which stand for “Exclusive”, however I may change the name of the music magazine to “volume”, “Harmony” or “Melody”, which have more of a connection to music. Like, my magazine of inspiration Q magazine, the title will be presented in a red box, with a gold “E” inside the box. As, the title “E” will be on the left side of the music magazine.

Genre:The sub-genre of my music magazine will be pop music. This mean this magazine will just features pop music artist like Michael Jackson. In addition, my music magazine will just appeals to audience who is a fan of pop music.

Content:On the double page spread there will be an interview will be contain of my first issue of “E”.

Style or Approach:The denotation of the colour scheme for the magazine front cover will be is red as the primary colour in my music magazine colour as red is a bold and eye-catching colour. Moreover, the colour red is a glamorous, which mean my music magazine must be glamorous. Moreover, I will use the colour gold as this represent that my pop music magazine is exclusive and special. However, I will use the colour blue in my magazine as the puff promotion, as blue is a calming colour for my music magazine. Finally, I will use the colour white and black for most of the background and the font for my music, as these colours are fresh, bold and simple, so they will make the magazine easier to read.I am going to use Photoshop to construct the magazine pages (Front Cover and DPS) because this software have various of tools, which is benefits me has I can edits the main images and the front cover and double pages, so this can makes the music magazine looks professional, so I can make the image look glossy and create the perfect image for my music magazine. Some of the tools in Photoshop that will be particularly beneficial in constructing on the front page will be colour correction, so I can make the main image duller and brighter, touch ups and enhancement, all of these tools will help me to create the main image of the front cover of my first issue of E.

Length:I am going to make A4 pages, which will include the front cover and a double page spread for the first ever issue of “E”.

Frequency:The frequency of my music magazine will be monthly. This is because their will be a higher quality of information in my music magazine. In addition there will be more information in my magazine that will keep, audience interesting as their will included different information about music, artist or bands.

Audience:My music magazine target audience is between 15-30 year old. The reason is because my pop music magazine will mention mostly modern day artist, however my music magazine could mention older pop artist, which could appeal to someone older than the age range. The gender, which could be more attracted to my music magazine, is female. This is because by stereotype males and females, males will like rock music and also like the colour black or blue whiles females will like pop music and like the colour pink and purple.

Page 6: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Question 1These set of results is presented in the chart. This highlights the target audience may be females, however this is opposite than Q magazine readership. This suggests that I have asked more females than male, which could be a bit bias. This could shows the gender readership for my music magazine as more females has filled out my music magazine than males.

Page 7: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Question 2These set of results will reveal the target audience of the age range. The main age range for the readership is 14-16, as I have asked more people between the 14-16 because I have ask more people between the age range. This is important because my magazine can targeted at the younger target audience, so I can created a magazine, which is designed for that specific target audience.

Page 8: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Question 3This set of results can determine the most popular genre for my target audience. The most popular genre for my music magazine is pop music. As, my music magazine will have a electric of genre for my music magazine. This mean that my magazine will involve pop. Even so I haven't done have R&B as one of the choice for the question, someone choice other and then mention R&B. this means that I will mention R&B artists in my magazine as well as pop, rock and indies artists and bands.

Page 9: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Question 4All of my target audience reveal that they will be willing to buy a magazine between £2-£3. This is important because stereotypically students will not have enough money to buy a music magazine over £3 as it is deemed quite expensive. However all magazines that have a monthly frequency are over £3 because they have more content inside the magazine and therefore its more expensive. So I cannot meet with the target audience request of a cheap monthly music magazine because my magazine will be made in a high quality.

Page 10: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Question 5This sets of results reveal that most of my target audience never brought a music magazine. However, the target audience who do buy music magazines, would mostly buy their music magazine monthly. Also there is an equal amount of people who do buy the magazines weekly and fortnightly.

Page 11: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Question 6The set of results from my target audience reveals that they would prefer to read an interview from an artist than anything else. Equally, some of my target audience will like to look at pictures and advertisement in the music magazine. As well as one of my target audience will like to articles and artist information. However, no one would like to read about he music awards. This is important their need to be a main features in my magazine and I also need to know what my target audience enjoy to read.

Page 12: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Question 7The set of results will determine how is the best way to market my new music magazine. Most of my target audience thought that social media is the best way to market a new magazine, as most teenagers use social media and therefore it will be easier to advertise the a new magazine. However, no thought that the word of the mouth is not a good way to advertise a new magazine, even so in the past the word of mouth will be the best way to advertise a magazine.

Page 13: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Question 8Most of my target audience will buy a music magazine because a free gift, as they may seem that they are gaining something if they buy a magazine. Some people may buy a magazine if the free gift good enough and not something bad. Only one person will not buy a music magazine because of a music magazine.

Page 14: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Question 9The results on the chart reveal that the most popular free gift for my target audience will be concerts tickets discount voucher. This could be because most of the teenagers will prefer to go to a concert and hear live music. However some of the target audience will like to get earphone or headphone free in the magazine so they can listen to their music. Equally amount of people will like to receive signed autograph from the artist and band and a CD. One person will like to receive a free T- Shirt from the magazine.

Page 15: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Question 10By looking at the set of results, there are more people who never subscribed to the magazine than have. This could seem like more people go the the shop than subscribed yearly to the magazine. This is important because if you subscribed to a magazine and then go bored of the magazine, you can not stop the magazine of coming monthly and get you money back, unlike if you don’t have a subscribe to the magazine and buy the magazine monthly, you can stop buying the magazine anytime if they are bored of the magazine.

The Final Magazine Front Cover and Double Page Spread

This reason why I have chose this double page spread to be on my final magazine is because this would be appealing to be target audience, a lot of information is featured on this page. For instance, there is a drop caption about five different music artist and what page their ‘exclusive’ interview is on. This conforms to ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) as there is smaller pictures of the artists included on the page and this is also allows the target audience to have a good relationship with the magazine as it has more than one famous artist included in the magazine. Also the main quote will stand out because it is bold and appealing. This gives the audience an idea of what the interview will be about and also decides the tone of the interview, such as if the interview is sad or going to be funny.

The reason why I chose this front cover is because the appearance of the magazine looks more professional and also look like its have a higher quality information included in the magazine. The background is plain as its does take ay of the ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) away from the artist on the cover. Also the Masthead is bold and eye catching, so in a shop the target audience will be able to find this issue. This will increase the spending power of the magazine. In addition, the masthead cover the fault of the main image and how the page have a flat head.

Page 17: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Colour Scheme and House Style overview

FontI use the same font of lemonMilk for dafont throughout my magazine for the main headline or main quote to keep up the brand identity. Even so my masthead is manbow from dafront and therefore it will be on every page on my magazine magazine.

MastheadWhen creating my masthead it is different to Q magazine’s masthead as they are two separate magazines that offer different needs to different people. Instead of using a red box with a white letter, my magazine’s masthead has a full word called “EXCLUSIVE” which has a black outline with gold inside. My magazine’s masthead has a bold outline which is eye catching and will get the readers’ attention.

Colour SchemeEXCLUSIVE magazine includes a colour scheme as part of the House colour. The two main colour themes, gold and red, are repeated throughout my magazine. The gold suggests that my magazine is a special occasion or a celebration of reading my magazine. The red represents danger and rebelliousness as my magazine will include exclusive information. Also the magazine feature white and black.

When designing a music magazine you have to include a house style in order to have brand awareness for the brand identity. This is why I feature the masthead on every page of my magazine. The colour scheme is repeated throughout my magazine and also I repeated the same font to stand out and bold on the pages.

Page 18: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Magazine Market place My music magazine EXCLUSIVE main competitor is Q magazine, which have been around for 29 years much longer than EXCLUSIVE and also built the status are a respectable music magazine. One way, I could make my music magazine to be more popular than Q magazine, is to have more females artist and bands features in the magazine. This is important because Q magazine features more male dominated artists and bands in the feature, this could be the reason why the readership is mostly males rather than females. So by having more female artists and bands features in the magazine, my magazine could gain more female readership to my music magazine EXCLUSIVE. The pricing of my music magazine EXCLUSIVE and Q magazine have the same price as each other. So the readership of my magazine, expect a high quality and a professional looking magazine.

This is examples of Q magazine front cover and the layout of the magazine can look like.

This is examples of Q magazine double page spread and the layout of the magazine can look like.

Page 19: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Spending Power

By the statistics of the readership of Q magazine its reveal that ages between 15-24 is the age range that read Q magazine the most. Therefore I predict that people between the ages of 15-24 will read EXCLUSIVE magazine as both of the magazines will feature different genre of artists and bands in both of the magazines. The Hartley’s seven subjective and age, gender, class, self image, nationality, family and ethnicity is reference when looking at the statistic of the age range of the readership of the magazines and the spend power. The spending power would be similar to Q magazine, as the ABC1 is 70% of readership to Q magazine. This reveal that the readership of a magazine would have a earn high income and therefore can afford buying Q magazine months. So I could predict that people would be able to buy a more expensive magazine, which could have a higher quality contents in the magazine. However, the statistics for the gender ratio for Q magazine is that a higher percentage of males read Q magazine rather than females. As 68.3% of males read Q magazine and female have 31.7% for the readership of Q magazine. This would be the difference both Q magazine and my prediction as the statistic of EXCLUSIVE magazine, as Q magazine is a male dominated magazine. This is way EXCLUSIVE magazine features equal amount of female and male artists and bands, so my magazine will be equal gender balance and won’t appeal to one gender.

I predict that EXCLUSIVE magazine’s readership and the spending powers of for my target audience.I have to publish the correct date, which is base on the statistic that I predicted for from the statistic for Q magazine which is publish online. The reason why I have chose Q magazine’s statistic to analyse is because both of the magazines features similar contents which is produce.

Page 23: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Test Photograph The reason why I need to take test image is because I would need to know what poses will best suited for my music magazine. Also, it is important to take test pictures as it can help to reveals what that mood or theme of the magazine will be. The theme can be detected by the facial expression or body language of the person. In addition, the test pictures are important to do before a photo shot because you will know what clothes will be best suit for the magazine. Also the makeup will be important for a photo shot as it can reflect the theme and mood of the magazine as well.

Graphic Layout Front CoverI used my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine for my layout of the magazine. On the first layout of the magazine, the masthead is different, as for Q masthead, it is in a box, whilst my masthead is spread out. However this is more similar to Mojo as the strapline is under the masthead like in Q magazine. However my second layout has the same masthead as Q magazine however the puff promotion is different as the puff promotion on my second layout is more eye catching for the target audience.

Page 33: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Graphic Layout Front Double Page SpreadFor the double page spread, this will help to guide me where I should put my interview and also the main picture of the artist who is being interviewed. The first graphic layout is inspired by Q magazine as the interview was in at the bottom not in columns like the second graphic idea. However in both of my ideas, the headline quote is on the main image. As they both mention the masthead and the issue number of the magazine. However the first idea is on the right hand corner like Q magazine but my second idea is on the top of the magazine , so the target audience know what magazine and issue number they are reading.

Page 34: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Planned Format and Style of Front CoverMastheadI have decided to place the masthead across the width of the magazine, as this is eye catching and bold and able to see the magazine in a shop on the shelf. The logo is inspired by Mojo, as it is the same style of the masthead but just in a different font. However, the colouring of the font is like Q magazine, as they are both bright in colour as this will be more eye catching. This could ensure that more people will buy the magazine because the appearance of the magazine will look professional and fun to read.

Main StoryThe main story is placed off the right main image. This is important because this will tell the audience which artists and bands are going to be featured in the main story. This will be in bold so the audience will be attracted to the magazine, if they are fans of the artist/band.Moreover, this is under the strapline if the magazine because you will know that the main story is important because it is exclusive, just like my magazine.

Puff PromotionI have decided to put the puff promotion on the left hand corner of the music magazine. It will be in a bright colour such as red to create importance of the puff promotion, as you could win or get something free if you buy the magazine.

BarcodeI have decided to place the barcode on the right hand corner like some of the issues of my magazines of inspiration of Q magazine. The barcode of my magazine will tell you how much the magazine costs and the date the magazine was released.

Headline QuoteThe Headline Quote is on the right of the main image and will be eye catching because it will be in bold. This could also create emotion for the audience as the headline quote can suggest if the interview is going to be humorous or sad.

Main Article FeatureThe main article feature is placed on the right of the magazine. The purpose of the main article feature is to show people which artists and bands will be included in the magazine. The magazine will have ‘star appeal’ so this will create a sense of importance for the audience about the magazine.

StraplineI have decided to place the strapline under the masthead on the right. As, I have decided my strapline to be “Hear Our Voice”. This is important because the strapline will be near the masthead. This is important because this will be brand identity, as the strapline could be catchy and well known.

Page 35: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Planned Format and Style of Front Cover

House ColourI have decided my main house colour will be gold as on my masthead it is gold to express celebration and a special occasion, as buying my magazine, should be a celebration. In addition, another colour would be red for my magazine, as it is bright and bold, so this will appeal to the readers. Another two colours which will be mentioned throughout my magazine are black and white as the colour will be used for the background of the magazine and the font of the magazine.

Cover linesI have decided to put the cover lines on the left side of the music magazine. This will be below the masthead so this will tell the audience what will be included in the music magazine. This will make the magazine more important as they can see how many artists/bands are included in the magazine.

House StyleDuring the interview, the font will be in the same size and also have the same font style. Moreover, the main story will be different to create a sense of importance for the reader.

Page 36: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Planned Format and Style of Double Page Spread

Stand FirstThe stand first will be featured above the interview because this will be eye catching for the audience, so they will know what the interview is be about.

Main ImageThe main image of the article covers nearly both pages. The image is large and therefore it could be eye catching for the audience, as they can see their favourite artist on the double spread page. The picture could create ‘star appeal’ for the audience, so you can get an exclusive image of the person. Moreover, this could convey the person's personality, as they can be seen in a more down to earth light.

Pull QuoteI have decide to place the Pull Quote on the main picture as this will create the first impression of the interview and also you can tell what tone the interview will be in. The Pull Quote will be large and bold, so this will be eye catching for the audience and encourage them to read the interview.

Caption about other artists/bandsLike my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine, this will include other artists/bands and give dates of their album releases or dates for their next concerts.

Brand IdentityThe brand identity is very important, as this will be included in all of my pages in the magazine. Moreover, this will include the masthead, the page number and also the issue date.

InterviewThe interview is the main part of the double page spread of the magazine. This is important because they can read about their favourite artists/bands. Moreover, in the interview you can read some of their stories . The interview can create the tone of the double page spread of the magazine, which can create an emotion in the reader. If the tone of the interview is sad, the reader may feel the sadness of the person. However, if the interview is funny, then the reader may laugh with or at them and also they will feel happy as well.

Information about the artist. This reason I have chosen to have the information about the artist is because the audience well learn fun facts about them, so they can create a bond with the artist and also create their own opinion about the artist, so they will know whether they like them or not. Moreover, the information about the artist will be in the drop caption and could be used to advertise up and coming concerts or new albums about to be released.

Main Story TitleThe main story title is used on the front cover, so the audience will know what the interview is about. The same main story title will be on the double page spread, as the audience can identity that they are on the right page.

Page 37: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

MastheadI have decided to place my masthead on the left corner of the music magazine. Moreover, I have decided to place the letter ‘E’ , which stands for ‘Exclusive’. Moreover the ‘E’ is in a red box, just like my music magazine of inspiration, which is Q magazine. However, I have changed the colour of the font, as my font colour is gold, while Q magazines is white. The reason I have changed the colour of the font is because the music magazine will be more eye-catching for the audience. Moreover, the colour gold seems more exclusive and also exciting for the audience to see, as gold is the colour of celebration and buying my music magazine should be a celebration.

Puff PromotionThe puff promotion is at the top of the music magazine on the right hand side. This is important because the puff promotion could be the first thing the audience can see on the music magazine as it is next to the masthead. Therefore, they may buy the magazine because they found a free gift, which they like in the music magazine.

BarcodeThe barcode is placed at the bottom right hand corner of the magazine. This is because my music magazine of inspiration, Q magazine, has their barcode on the bottom right hand corner for some of their magazine issue. Moreover, the barcode is useful for a magazine because this tells you the cost and the issue number. Moreover by looking at the date of the magazine, this will ‘inform’ (Katz) you of the frequency of the magazine such as weekly or monthly.

Headline QuoteThe headline quote is under the main story because the audience can associate the quote to the main story, as they will be from the same articles. Moreover, the audience can sense a tone from the main story by the headline quote.

Main StoryThe main story is on the left hand side of the main image. The reason why the main story is placed there is because the audience can associate the main story to the artist on the front cover. Moreover, it is important to feature a main story because the audience will feel that you can not receive this information anywhere else apart from in this music magazine.

StraplineThe strapline is placed under the masthead. This is important because the strapline is for brand identity as the strapline is part of the music magazine’s image. Moreover, the strapline must be short, so people can remember the strapline when thinking of my music magazine.

Planned Format and Style of Front Cover

Page 38: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Cover linesThe cover lines of the magazine are on the right side of the magazine and next to the main image. This will tell the audience what will be featured in the magazine. This could persuade the audience to buy the magazine to read what their favourite artist/band have been to up to and see exclusive information about them.

House StyleThe house style for my music magazine will have the same size page on each page. However, some font size will be larger than other sizes because this will create importance to buy the magazine and will also create the excitement for the audience. The font size will be larger because it is creating exclusivity as the information is only available in that magazine.

House ColourThe main house colour for my music magazine is red, like my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine. As red is a bold and eye catching colour. Another, main house colour for my music magazine is gold, as gold is an exciting colour and the audience should be excited to read my music magazine. Another, house colour for my music magazine is white and black, as these are used for the font and also for the background.

Planned Format and Style of Double Page Spread

Quote From InterviewI have decided to place the quote from the interview on the main picture, as this will create the first impression of the interview and set the tone for the interview. The quote from the interview will be large and bold, so this will be eye catching for the audience and encourage them to read the interview.

Main ImageThe main image of the article is covered nearly both the page. The image is large and therefore is could be eye catching for the audience, they can see their favourite artist on the double spread page. The picture could create ‘star appeal’ for the audience, so you can get an exclusive image of the person. Moreover, this could convey the person's personality, as they can be seen in a more down to earth light.

Stand FirstThe stand first will be featured above the interview because this will be eye catching for the audience, so they will know what the interview will be about.

InterviewThe interview is the main part of the double page spread of the magazine. This is important because they can read what the artists/bands really think of their music. Moreover, in the interview you can read some of their stories . The interview can create the tone of the double page spread of the magazine, which can create an emotion in the reader. If the tone of the interview is sad, the reader may feel the sadness of the artist. However, if the interview is funny then the reader may laugh with or at the artist and also feel happy themselves.

Brand IdentityThe brand identity is very important, as this will be included in all my pages of the magazine. Moreover, this will include the masthead, the page number and also the issue date.

Main Story TitleThe main story title is used on the front cover, so the audience will know what the interview will be about. The same main story title will be on the double page spread, as the audience can identity that they are on the right page.

Second ImageThe second image on the left will reveal more of them as a musician as the image could be an insight to their personality.

Page 40: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

For the double page spread in my music magazine I will write an interview with the artist, Paloma Faith who will be featured on my double page spread as she features as the main story and will also feature a headline quote from the interview, so this will attract the audience to read my music magazine because she is a famous singer and therefore, the ‘star appeal’ will form, as her fans will buy the music magazine because she will be featured in the music magazine.I have chosen to interview Paloma Faith because she is well known because of her many hits like “Only Love can hurt like This”, “Upside Down” or “New York”. Moreover, I have chosen Paloma Faith because the genre of her songs are soul, jazz and pop, this means she specialises in eclectic music, just like my music magazine. In addition, Paloma Faith has a successful career in the music industry and her song “Changing” is number 1 on the UK singles. Furthermore, she has won and been nominated for numerous different award ceremonies like the Brit Awards, Glamour Awards and the O2 Silver Clef Awards for her music. During the interview I will ask her questions about her music career and what artists inspire her for her music and what inspires her to sing. I will ask about her more about her music.

The interview will be a layout of on the double page spread. There will be different questions and different answers for the interview. I have used format because it is like many of the different double page spread in Q magazine. So the audience can understand the format of the interview in the music magazine.

This is my page of inspiration for the Q magazine for the October 2015 issue on page 15. As they use different colours for the font, this will make the writing bolder and easier to read.

Draft Article - InterviewInterviewer: Hello Paloma. It’s good to meet with you – how are you?PALOMA: Good to be finally meeting with you, very excited to be here. I’ve been good, thanks.Interviewer: Congratulation, for winning your first Brits award for British Female Solo Artist this year.PALOMA: thank you, I was very happy that I finally won a Brits award, after all have been nominated three times and never won a Brits award before. So, this was very special for me when I won my first Brits award.Interview: Does fame affect the your day to day life?PALOMA: No, because I have made a conscious effect to stay with friends, have always had, do the same things and go to the same places. This is because my friends can’t afford to go to posh or fancy places with me, so I go with them to do cheap and cheerful things (laugh). So I am so relaxed with my friends, so I’m always forgetting that I am in the public eye. So, when people ask for a photo with me, I still find it really weird.Interview: Who is your biggest inspiration?PALOMA: Well… I would say Etta James. She is a singer between the 50s and 60s. I tell people that she was like a teacher because I never had any singing lesson as I would copy the style of her vocal. I have been having singing lesson now because I need to know the techniques to save my voice. Another artist is Billie Holiday and all of the old singers.Interview: So, you are known for your retro and eccentric style well as voice. So would you explain what you are wearing.PALOMA: Well, I am wearing everything from the high-street. So the top and the trousers are from H&M. as these shoes are from New Look. As, the beret is from eBay, they come in lots of colours. When I was an opening act for prince, he did say to me that I was one of the best dressed people in the music industry at the moment. So that was quite nice.Interview: So I heard that you done a bit of acting during your career as a singer, What have you been in and have you audition to do anything else?PALOMA: Well, my I appeared in one episode of Holby Blue , which is on the BBC. I played a thief. (Laugh) also I was in St Trinian in 2007 as Andrea who was the Emo. I’ve been in others acting things in was like I was cast in Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctors Parnassus. I did audition for Kickass 2 but I have never got a call back.Interview: Talking about your television appearances, I heard you are replacing Rita Ora on the VoicePALOMA: Yes, I am going to be a coach in the 5th series on the voice. I am very excited about this, as I would be finding new fresh talents in the UK. This will be a new experience, as its not about acting or singing, but it’s more about being yourself. So I hope you be watching.Interview: Don’t worry, I will watch it. I heard a rumour that you have started making your fourth album, as you announce it at Glastonbury Festival. Can you give anything away.PALOMA: That is true, I am in the process of making the albums. I’m not going to say anything yet. The song Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix did inspire for my fourth album. It’s going to be a surprise. That’s all I'm going to say.Interview: Can you tell me more about your upbringing and how you started singing.PALOMA: Well, I have an English mum and Spanish dad, they divorced when I was four years old, so I was raised by my mum. My mum wanted me to be a dancer, so I would go to dance lesson every week. I did my A-levels at City and Islington College and then I studied for a degree at Northern School of Contemporary dance for contemporary dance. Then, I was lucky enough to get into Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design do, I can study for an MA in Theatre Directing. I knew this was a good opportunity, so I took a lot of part time job like Sales assistant at Agent Provocateur, singer in a burlesque cabaret, a life model and a magician’s assistant. So I can pay for my education. Interview: Wow, you have do lots of different part time job. This interview is sadly coming toward the end, what are you hoping to do in the future?PALOMA: I want to continue making music, have a career and have a family one day. I also want to travel with my work because I have done lots in the UK and I have happy with the support I have received. But, I'm not well known around the world, that is my next aim.

I have created a draft interview, which featured the famous pop, jazz and soul signer Paloma Faith. I have created these questions because of my music magazine, Q magazine. This is because I have created a style of magazine, which is about herself, her music and her fashion so she will feel comfortable with the questions.

I know that I couldn’t get a real interview with Paloma Faith, for my question so I received my information about Paloma Faith from previous interviews she as done from IBM.TV. I Also, got my information from different website.

Magazine Flat Plan

This is the flat plan for my first music magazine. The red number represent which page will be mention in the music magazine.I have made 60 page because the frequency of the magazine is monthly and therefore need more pages than a weekly or fortnightly magazine.

This is where my double page spread will be display on my magazine

Page 43: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Magazine Flat Plan 2

This is another flat plan for my second music magazine. The red letters will represent, which of the pages I will create on Photoshop. The blue box represent picture will be feature in my music magazine, for the advert to the pictures of music artist and bands.

This is where my double page spread will be display on my magazine

Page 44: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Photoshop Version Both of the front cover I have design two different front cover, so I can decide which of my double spread cover is best design for my target audience and the demographic. By the appearance the audience can see which of the front cover they like because of the colour scheme or the font style I used.

The first magazine front cover I have design is “EXCLUSIVE”. This was my first attempt of using Photoshop. The colour scheme of my magazine which I used is red, gold, white and black. The reason why I have chose these colours for the colour scheme is because this will be bold and is also it will look professional as these colour are simple and it will also stand out.

The background of my music magazine is black and white as I will use the gradient effect, so these colour contrast with each other. This good represent good and evil. The main line, cover line and the main quote all have the same font as this is brand brand identity and the font is also bold and eyes catching .

My second magazine font cover is “E” is which the masthead is similar to my magazine of inspiration, Q magazine. The magazine convergence is the same as my first magazine front cover line the cover line or main quote. On good thing about my second magazine is inspiration is the background of white and gold, as the background is easy on the line and also represent celebration and fun, which represent the theme of the magazine as fun, so it will attract the younger target audience. However, one negative impact of my second music magazine is the main image. This is important because on the top of the image the head is flat and you can’t cover the flat head with the masthead like I did on my first music magazine, as the masthead is inside a red box.

Second Magazine Idea

First Magazine Idea

Page 45: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Photoshop Version I have designed two double page spread on Photoshop. This will help me to discover my final double page spread and why it is well suite for my target audience. The first double page spread I have design was for “EXCLUSIVE”. I have insert on of the pictures of the trail photo as the main images, whilst on the right side of the double page spread, with four famous singer, which will add ‘star appeal” (Richard Dyer) as the target will gain five famous artists on one page, with a full interview and four facts about them and a number of the page for their interview. The main quote cover half of the page, so it will be eye catching and bold. I also have the page number at the bottom of the page with the masthead beside it.One disadvantage of the double page spread is that there is no page title or no name of the artist, so there is no way someone will to know that who the artist is.

First Double Page Spread

Second Double Page Spread

The second design of the double page spread is for ‘E magazine’ I have include the house style of the front cover and adapted for this double page spread. However for this page I have created one full image of the artist on one half and a full page of interview another half. Also on this page I have created a smaller image of the artist with a quote next to it, so that it will draw the target audience to read the interview. This is important because the target audience would more likely to read the interview as its wouldn’t be a half of page of text. This would also add ‘star appeal” (Richard Dyer) as there are two images on the double page spread of the same artist. However one disadvantage of this double page spread is that is that I haven’t included the artist name on the, so the target audience may not know who the artist is.

Second Magazine Front Cover and Double Page Spread

The reason why I haven't chose this double page spread to be my final double page spread is because the interview have too much text on it and not appealing to my target audience and the demographic of the people who is buying the magazine. Another element of the music magazine I could change to improve the quality of the magazine is the main quote next to the main image. This is important because quote is too small and therefore its not that appealing to read.To improve this double page spread for next time, I will add a larger image of the artist in the middle of the interview, not at the bottom and also I will make the main quote larger so it will be more appealing. The reason why I haven’t chose this front cover to be my

final cover is because the picture quality of the image is not good, a the model head is flat because of the camera angle of the main image. Another reason why I haven’t chose this to be my front cover is because the gold text of the magazine contrast with the white and gold background. To improve this front cover for next time I will change the background to a darker colour or I will change the colour of the gold text to red

Page 67: Sophie Angus Unit 13 LO3

Production Changes – Front CoverFront Cover CorrectionWhen I was created the first draft of front cover, I have gain feedback so I will be able to make changes to the front cover to make it better. Therefore it will make it look more professional so that it will look like it is made from a high quality. On this page I will be comparing my first draft of front cover to my final front cover. This is important as the final correction will reveal all of the correction that I have made. Some of the changes that for the final front cover are the background, the eye colour, puff promotion and coverline. So when I have received feedback from my first Front Cover, I had to change the cover to make it more suited to publisher and therefore this could improve the sale figure of my magazine as it will look more professional.

I have change the colour background from white to grey to black and change it to light grey and the dark grey. This is important because I have change the background because to relate to my magazine of inspiration (Q magazine). Also, this could make my magazine to seem like it have a rock theme and people could get the wrong idea of what music information will contain of. This is why the background of the magazine have a naturel as my magazine will contain if all music genre. I have also change the coverline information and the different colours of the coverline. This is important because my magazine will feature the range of colours and not all ways features the colour schemes in the magazine. Also also made the left side of my magazine to have all of the main story and on the right side there are just mention one main story about rating new albums. Also I have use different colours on my coverline line such as an olive green because it will appeal to more people as it will not be just red and gold, which could make it look unprofessional. For the main headline and the main quote are connected together. I have created the main headline to white. Firstly, I have made the name “NICOLE” and then made the name “ANGUS” normally. I also made the main quote on top of the “ANGUS” and then change it from an olive colour. In addition, I have moved the puff promotion, from the bottom left side and move it from the top right side under the strapline so that it will be more like my magazine of inspiration (Q magazine). I also change the prize of the puff promotion from winning an apple product to win free iTune because this prize will relate to music more and therefore help the my magazine with further sales because as the prizes from the magazine can get bigger and better..Moreover, the website link has moved next to the puff promotion and I have place the website link under the masthead.

Production Changes –Double Page SpreadDouble Page Spread CorrectionI will be comparing the before and after version of my double page spread. I have gained the feedback from the publisher gave me. This will reveal what changes I have made because of the correction that I have been given. The correction that I have received was to help me to made my magazine better and therefore make the magazine look professional and made from a high quality. For the facts about the new album box, it was suggest that I should add a black drop shadow around the red box so it will stand out on the page. Also it was suggest that I should add bullet point instead of have sentences and I should also change the font of the text as well.In addition, the new album box had an effect of the black shadow because the red box will stand out and therefore the target audience will be able and notice the fun facts about the album about the artists will released. Also improvement on the double page spread is the I have to neatened up the the bottom section of the page. As the masthead, the page number, the social symbols and also the web address are too close together. This is is why I have moved the web address on the left side and I have made the social media symbol the same size. In addition, I have made the decrease the black stroke on the masthead. This is important because you would be able to see the detail of the masthead on the page. Also decrease the black stroke on the page number because the masthead and the page number will have the same black stroke and it is also easier to read. However on the final draft I have decided to change the bottom section of the pages by getting rid of the social symbols and replace it with the issue number. This is important as this is more like my magazine of inspiration Q magazine. This is important I have more it look neater and more professional as it doesn’t look messy as it did before. This will mean that it look simple and bold on the page and also doesn’t take away from any ‘star appeal’ from the interview.

You can also see that I have place my masthead across the black pattern background, so that this will be a type of brand awareness, as this will add more detail to the magazine and also this will make my double page spread to look fun and creative because of this decision. In addition, I have moved the EXCLUSIVE website from line under the social media symbols and moved it under the interview. On the final draft of my magazine, I used the ruler tool more often so that I will be able to line up different text boxes through out my magazine. Example of when I have used the ruler tool to make my page layout accurate is when I have lined up ‘MUST HEAR SOUNDS OF 2015’ to the images of different artist that is in a gold box. In addition, I have used the ruler tool to to line up the facts about the artists to the artists pictures which are features in the gold box. Also, I have decided to put the artists' names in bold. This is important as this will add ‘star appeal’ to the piece of text as they can quickly find the artists’ name. In addition, I have proof read my work so that I will be able to find any spelling, grammar and punctuation mistake that I have made when typing the the double page spread. Example of when I have spelt a word wrong is when I have spelt release like ‘reasled’.
