of extracellular matrix proteins, which can lead to loss oftissue function and ultimately organ failure.

About the workshop leader Dr Aamir Ahmed:Aamir obtained his Ph D from the University ofDundee where he also served as an HonoraryLecturer and Group Leader. He then joined YaleUniversity as research faculty to work on ionchannels. Aamir was awarded a Wellcome TrustFellowship at the Department of Physiology,

University College London, where he established his researchgroup. This was followed by his appointment as the Head ofStem Cell Group at the Prostate Cancer Research Centre,also at the University College London. He joined the Centrefor Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, King’s College,London in January 2015.

The session will be kicked-off with apresentation of work that has aimed to develop a 3Dmodel of the human bronchial mucosa and willinclude case studies from industry where drugmolecules have failed in clinical trials despite havingpassed in vitro testing.
