Abu Zakaria Muhiy ad-Din Yahya Ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi Or in short, Imam Nawawi (631–676 A.H./1234–1277),

Imam an-Nawawi r.a. had three distinctive commendable qualities in his person. If anybody has only one out of these three, people turn to him in abundance for guidance. First, having knowledge and its dissemination. Second, to evade completely from the worldly inclinations, and the third, inviting to all that is good (Islam) enjoining virtue and forbidding vice. Imam an-Nawawi had all three in him.

Allah, Allah, Allah. Allah is my Lord – I associate no partner unto

Him. Allah, Allah, Allah. Allah is my Lord: no deity exists other than

Him. Allah is more powerful, stronger, and greater than what I fear

and guard against. 3 times

With You, O Allah, I seek refuge from the evil of my own self, the evil of

others, and the evil of what my Lord has created, forged, and designed;

with You, O Allah, I seek protection against them; with You, O Allah, I

take refuge from their wicked ways; and with You, O Allah, I repel their

necks. And I set between me and them:

“In the Name of Allah Most Compassionate, Most Merciful

Say: He is Allah the One! * Allah the eternally Besought of

all! * He begetteth not nor was begotten. * And there is

And [I say] the same [the Basmallah and Sūrat al-ikhlāṣ] to my right and to

their right; and the same to my left and to their left; and the same in front

of me and in front of them; and the same behind me and behind them; and

the same above me and above them; and the same below me and below

them; and the same encompassing me and encompassing them.

ALLAA-HUM-MA – IN-NEE – AS- ALUKA- LEE – WA-LA-HUM – MIN – KHAIY-RI-KA – BI – KHAIY-RI-KAL – LA-DZEE – LAA –

YAM-LI-KU-HU – GHOY-RUK ALLAA-HUM-MAJ – ‘AL-NEE – WA – IY-YAA-HUM – FEE – HIF – ZI-KAWA – ‘IY-YAA – DZI-KA – WA –’IBAA - DIKA - WA –’IY-YAA – LIKA –

WA – JI-WAA – RI-KA -WA – AM-NIKA – WA – A-MAA -NATI-KA – WA - HIZ-BI-KA – WA –HIR-ZI-KA - WA – KA-NA – FI-KA –

O Allah, verily I beseech You, for my sake and theirs, for whatever You

choose from Your goodness which no one other than You possesses.

O Allah, put me and them in Your divine servitude and protection, in Your

Guardianship, amongst what is entrusted unto You, and be in Your party,

in Your sanctuary and shelter – from every demon, possessor of power …

WA- IN – SIN – WA – JAA-N, - WA – BAA – GHIN – WA – HAA- SI-DINWA – SA – BU – ‘IN – WA – HAIY- YA-TIN – WA – AQ – ROBINWA – MIN - SHAR – RI – KUL-LI – DA-AB-BA-TIN – AN – TA –

… whether human or jinn, from tyrants and enviers, from predatory

beasts and serpents and scorpions, and from every crawling creature

under Your control. Verily, my Lord is upon the straight path!

The Lord suffices me from all who are subject to others.

The Creator suffices me from the created.

The Sustainer suffices me from those who are sustained.

The Concealer suffices me from those who are concealed.

The Giver of Victory suffices me from those who are granted victory.

The Vanquisher suffices me from those who are vanquished.

HAS – BI –YAL – LA- DZEE – HU-WA – HAS – BEEHAS – BI –YA – MAN – LAM – YA – ZAL – HAS – BEE

HAS – BI –YALLAA-HU – WA - NI’ – MAL – WA – KEE-LHAS – BI –YALLAA-HU – MIN – JA – MEE- ‘I – KHOL – QI-HI


The One who suffices me is my sufficiency.

He Who never ceases sufficing me suffices me.

My sufficiency is Allah, and what a great Protector is He!

Allah suffices me from [needing from] His entire creation.

IN – NA – WA – LIY – YAL-LAA-HUL – LA-DZEE – NAZ – ZA-LAL – KI-TAA-BAWA – HU-WA – YA – TA – WAL – LAS – SWAA- LI-HEE-N


“Verily, my protector is Allah, Who has bestowed this divine writ

from on high: for it is He who protects the righteous,“ [Q: 7:196]


“When you recite the Qur'an, We place a hidden barrier between

you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter;“ [Q: 17: 45]

” And We place a covering on their hearts so that they do not

comprehend it, and We cause a heaviness in their ears; and

when you mention your Lord, the Only True Lord, in the Qur'an,

they turn their backs in aversion.” [Q: 17:45]

“Now if they turn away (O Muḥammad) say: Allah sufficeth me.

There is no god save Him. In Him have I put my trust and He is Lord

I conceal myself within the coffers of ‘through the

name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful’

(BIS-MILLAA-HIR-ROH-MAA-NIR-RO-HEEM).

Its locks are my trust in Allah (TSI-QA-TI-BIL-LAAH).

Its keys are ‘there is no power except by Allah’

(LAA-HAW-LA-WA-LAA-QUW-WA-TA-IL-LA-BIL-LAAH).

UDAA – FI – ‘U – BI – KALLAA-HUM-MA – ‘AN – NAF-SEEMAA – U-TEE-QU – WA – MAA – LAA – U – TWEEQ,

LAA – TWAA-QO-TA – LI – MAKH – LUU-QINMA- ‘A – QUD – RA – TI – KHAA – LIQ

HAS – BIYALLAA-HU – WA – NI’-MAL – WA – KEE-LBI – KHA-FIY-YEE – LUTW – FIL-LAAH

BI – LA – TWEE-FI – SWUN – ‘ IL-LAAHBI – JA – MEE – LI – SIT – RILLAAH



Through You, O Allah, I protect myself from what lies within my

power and what lies outside it. The created creatures are powerless

[when faced] with the ability of the Creator.

Allah is sufficient for me, and in Him I put my trust. With the Hidden

Kindness of Allah; with the kindness inherent in the creation of

Allah; with the Beauty of the Sanctuary (covering) of Allah;

DA-KHOL- TU – FEE – LA-NA-FIL-LAAH, - TA-SHAF – FA’ –TU – BI – SAI-YI-DI-NAA – RO – SUU-LILLAAH, -

TA – HASW- SWON-TU –BI- AS-MAA- IL-LAAH, - AA-MAN –TU – BIL-LAAH, -

TA-WAK-KAL-TU – ‘ALAL-LAAH, -ID-DA – KHAR- TULLAAHA – LI –KUL-LI – SHID – DA - TIN



I enter under the Guardianship of Allah.

I seek the intercession from our Master, the Messenger of Allah.

I protect myself with the Names of Allah. I solemnly believe in Allah.

I place my trust in Allah. I turn to Allah in every difficulty.

ALLAA-HUM-MA – YAA – MA-NIS-MU-HU – MAH – BUU-BWA – WAJ – HU –HU – MATW – LUU-B, - IK-FI-NEE –

MAA – QOL-BEE – MIN – HU – MAR – HUU-B, - ANTA – GHAA – LI- BUN - GHOY – RU – MAGH – LUU-B, -

WA- SWOL – LALLAA-HU – ‘ALAA – SAIYI-DI-NAAMU-HAM-MADIN – WA – AA-LI-HI –

O Allah! The One Whose Name is Beloved; Whose Face is Desired,

protect me from that which my heart fears;

You are the Overpowering and none can overpower You.

And may the Blessings and Peace of Allah be upon our Master

Muhammad and upon his Family and companions.

Sufficient is Allah, Who is the Best to Protect.

Sufficient for us is Allah, and
