For Shutter Island, the age range of the audience would range from about 17/18 years to 45 years because people who are younger may not be able to follow the film and people who are older may not like the storyline and theme of the film.

The gender of the audience viewing Shutter Island can be both male and female as the film is for any people who like mystery and films that make you think and question what’s happening and what will happen next. Males may be more likely to appreciate Shutter Island more than females as they’d possibly be more drawn into the film than females.The ethnicity of the audience is irrelevant for viewing the film as it wouldn’t impact on whether or not you would enjoy the film or not. Certain ethnic groups may like a particular film depending on what it’s about and what’s involved in it.

Social class may determine who views the film as certain people may not feel that Shutter Island is to their taste of film. For example: skilled manual workers and supervisory or clerical people may not find this film enjoyable. On the other hand, they might enjoy it because Shutter Island involves the audience to think about the concept of the film overall.

The personality characteristics of the audience can determine what type of film that they go to see. For Shutter Island, people who like mystery and investigation within a film may like this. Also, people who enjoy suspense and curiosity for a film may like this. Whereas, people who like a scare within a film most probably won’t enjoy this film.

The lifestyle of the audience to see Shutter Island may be explorers as they like a challenge and adventure of the film. They might also like the energy and experience that the film creates. Although this may be the case, people who are reformers or succeeders may also like the film Shutter Island.

This graph, taken from the Peal & Dean movie website, implies that 60% of males and only 40% of females watched Shutter Island, which concludes that males seemed to enjoy the film more than females did. It also shows that people aged between 15-24 and 25-34 watched the film more than people aged between 35-44 and 45+. As well as this, it also shows that a different range of people from each social class viewed Shutter Island. It proves that people who are likely to be professional or administrators and semi-skilled manual workers both enjoyed the film even though they are from different social groups.
