Life of Christ
Think! Jesus' Birth
Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-2:21; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Revelation
22:18-19
The Bible tells us many important facts about the birth of Jesus. It tells us that Jesus
was a descendent of King David. It tells us that His birth was miraculous. It tells us
that He is God's son. It tells us that an angel from God announced His birth not just
to Mary and Joseph, but also to shepherds who were in a field at night watching
their flocks. It tells us many other things regarding the circumstances of our Lord's
birth. What the bible doesn't tell us is when Jesus was born. If God had wanted us to
celebrate Jesus' birthday, he would have told us when he was born and how to
celebrate that day.
Put a check mark next to the true statements and an X next to the false statements.
___ Mary was Jesus' mother.
___ Joseph and Mary traveled to Bethlehem to register for the census.
___ Jesus' mother laid him in a manger because there was no room at the inn in Bethlehem.
___ The Bible tells us that Jesus was born on Christmas Day.
___ An angel of the Lord appeared to shepherds who were living out in the fields.
___ The shepherds were keeping watch over their flocks during the day.
___ The Bible tells us to celebrate Jesus' birth.
___ The Bible tells us to remember Jesus death by taking the Lord's supper.
___ An angel appeared to Mary and told her that she would have a baby.
___ The angel who appeared to Mary was Michael.
___ An angel appeared to Joseph and told him that Mary's baby was of the Holy Spirit.
___ God is displeased when we add to what He has told us to do. (Hint: Galations 1:8-9, Matthew 15:8-9,
Revelation 22:18-19)

Think! Elders
1 Thes 5:12, Acts 20:28-30, 1 Tim 3:2-7, Titus 1:7-9, Heb 13:17, 1 Pet 5:1-3
God has specified that every local church be autonomous, having its own elders. Elders have a very
important role in the spiritual health of the church. They are to watch over the local church to make sure it
is following the Bible. The elders report directly to Jesus, who is the head of the church. No other church
organization is found in the Bible. Any other organization is man's creation. God has specified the
qualifications for elders.
Write "T" next to the true statements and "F" next to the false ones.
1. Preachers are pastors. (Ephesians 4:11)
2. A church may have just one elder. (Acts 14:23, Acts 20:17, Titus 1:5, Philippians 1:1)
3. Both men and women may be elders. (1 Timothy 3:2)
4. New Christians may be elders. (1 Timothy 3:6)
5. Elders must be gentle and not violent. (1 Timothy 3:3, Titus 1:7)
6. The work of an elder is a good work to be desired. (1 Timothy 3:2)

8. Elders are rulers who yell at members. (Heb. 13:17, 1 Tim. 3:3)
9. Elders may have as many wives as they want. (1 Tim 3:2, Titus 1:6)
10. Elders must be hospitable. (1 Timothy 3:2)
11. It doesn't matter if the elders decide to have a mid-week Bible study. We do not have to obey them. (Hebrews 13:17)
12. An elder must have children. (Titus 1:6)

Think! Deacons
Acts 6:2-4, 1 Timothy 3:8-13
Deacons are servants who help elders. When a special task needs to be done, elders appoint deacons to carry out the
task. In this way, the task gets done, but the elders can continue to focus on watching out for the congregation and looking for other needs. Not just anyone can be a deacon. The Bible tells us the qualifications for deacons.
Write "T" next to the true statements and "F" next to the false ones.
1. The job of a deacon is to serve. (1 Timothy 3:13, Acts 6:2-4)
2. A woman may be a deacon. (1 Timothy 3:11-12)
3. A single man may be a deacon. (1 Timothy 3:12)
4. A man whose wife is not a faithful Christian may be a deacon. (1 Timothy 3:11)
5. A deacon is a young elder. (Acts 6:2-4)

7. Elders must examine deacons to prove they are qualified. (1 Timothy 3:10)
8. Deacons must rule their own houses. (1 Timothy 3:12)

Think! Music as Worship to God
John 4:24, Ephesians 5:18-19, Colossians 3:16, Hebrews 2:12, 1 Corinthians 14:15, Acts 16:25
God teaches us what is acceptable to Him as worship both through direct commands and through
examples of what others did in the Bible. One of the things He tells us is what kind of music He wants for the church.
In the old testament, the children of Israel worshipped God using various musical instruments such as tumbrels and harps. King David wrote about such in Psalm 150. When Jesus died on the cross, He nailed the old law that the Israelites followed to the cross and set up a new law for us to follow. (Hebrews 8:7-13, Colossians 2:13-14) The church today is to follow this new law and not the old one. (Galatians 5:4) This is why we do not sacrifice animals, burn incense, or use musical instruments today in our worship to God.
Write "T" next to the statements that are true and "F" next to the ones that are false.
1. The Israelites used musical instruments to worship God. (Psalm 150:3-5) 2. We can use musical instruments to worship God today because the Israelite did. (Galatians 5:4) 3. God's new law tells us to sing songs. (Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16)
4. God's new law tells us to play songs. (Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16) 5. The only examples of church music are of singing. (See verses at top) 6. It doesn't matter if we add to what God has commanded. (Revelation 22:18, Matthew 15:8-9) 7. We must all sing. (Ephesians 5:19) 8. We are to be filled with wine. (Ephesians 5:18) 9. We teach each other through singing. (Ephesians 5:19) 10. We should pay attention to the words we are singing. (Ephesians 5:19)
11. It doesn't matter if we sing songs that teach errors. (Eph. 5:19, Gal. 1:8-9)
12. We can sing any kind of song we want. (Ephesians 5:19) 13. God is the object of our worship. (John 4:24) 14. We can worship God any way we choose as long as we are sincere. (John 4:24, Matthew 5:8-9)

How God's Grace Saves
"Be saved from this perverse generation." Acts 2:40
The Bible says that God's grace saves us and we cannot earn our salvation. How does God's grace work?
God didn't have to save us. It was by His grace, love, and mercy that He made a way for us to be saved.
God doesn't save us when we just sit still doing nothing. God commanded that we do some things to reach
out and touch His grace. We must obey all of God's commands to be pleasing to Him. (Galatians 1:8-9,
Revelation 22:18-19, John 14:15) Once we obey these commands, God's grace saves us. Read the Bible
verses and fill in the blanks with the actions God has commanded for us to do to receive salvation.

What is Baptism?
There is much confusion in the religious world over what baptism is. The Bible, God's
Word, tells us exactly what baptism is. If we read all that the Bible has to say about baptism, we will understand not only what it is, but also who it is for and why we should do it.
Match the Bible verses to the information on baptism. (Some information may have more
than one verse and some verses may give more than one piece of information!) Write the letter of the information next to the Bible verse that gives the information. Then cross out any information for which there is no Bible verse.
