What is sexual dysfunction?
Any problem that occurs during any phase of sexual response cycle
It prevents the individual or couple from the sexual activity
Dysfunction can be common!
It can affect any gender at any age It is more common in ages 40-65
because of decline due to aging 43% of women have reported some kind
of dysfunction 31% of men have reported it
Types
Desire disorders Lack of sexual desire or interest in sex
Arousal disorders Inability to become physically aroused or
excited during sexual activity Orgasm disorders
Delay or absence of orgasm or climax Pain disorders
Pain during intercourse
Symptoms for men Inability to achieve or maintain an erection
Example: erectile dysfunction Absent or delayed ejaculation despite sexual
stimulation Inability to control timing of ejaculation
Example: premature ejaculation Lack of interest or desire for sex Pain with intercourse Inability to become aroused
Symptoms in women Lack of interest or desire for sex
Example: low libido Inability to achieve orgasm Lack of vaginal lubrication before or during
intercourse Inability to relax vaginal muscles enough to
allow intercourse Pain with intercourse Inability to become aroused
