Is it too early to apply?
• Visit the website of EVERY college you are considering applying to.
• Go to the admission page or click on “prospective students”.
• Find out the steps involved in their admission & scholarship application process.
• Write down the deadline dates for admissions and scholarships.
• Begin!
HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLESOF WEBSITES FOR
SCHOOLS IN OUR AREA.
Navigating College Websites
• We suggest that you narrow your search down to 3-4 schools this fall.
• Paperwork can be overwhelming and it can be costly to apply to numerous schools.
• However, if a school is a real possibility, do not hesitate to apply.
• You may be surprised at scholarship money offered by some private schools. It can often make the final cost more competitive.
• Your choice may come down to finances. In the spring you will receive award letters from each school to which you applied. You and your parents can compare offers and make a decision that is best for your family.
Requesting Transcripts• Transcripts should be requested two weeks in
advance on www.parchment.com by YOU, the student.
• No phone calls or email requests.• A request sent by a college or Common App will
not suffice.• Transcripts must be “official” (mailed by the
school).• We only send transcripts. We do not send other
types of records (blue slips).• Free until you graduate! Final is $5 plus fees.• Mrs. Dozier, registrar, handles all transcript
requests.
Who is Mrs. Dozier?
She is our very busy, hardworking registrar.
PARCHMENT.COM
https://youtu.be/tXkxLcFfC9A
• Do not request “Self View”. Make sure you uncheck this box.
• If you need an unofficial copy of your transcript, it may be printed from iNow Home Portal/Chaklable.
• Be aware that, for now, Parchment will refer to us as Walker High School.
Need more help with that?
• Where is the Career Center?
Across from the library…
Submitting ACT Scores
• You must submit official test scores.
• While we do have an ACT label when you send your scores to us, that is not an official score.
• If you did not include the school on the list when you signed up to take the test, you may pay a fee to have your score sent to additional schools. This is called an Additional Score Report. You will do this from your account at www.actstudent.org.
What else can I be doing?
• Join CLUBS!
• Seek out LEADERSHIP ROLES!
• Participate in COMMUNITY SERVICE!
• STUDY! This semester counts!
ONCE YOU’RE ADMITTED…
• Follow the school’s instructions on taking next steps in applying for scholarships.
• Look out for deadlines to pay housing deposits, etc.
• Fill out your FAFSA starting Oct. 1st .
• When scholarship offers come, make sure you accept the one you want via mail or online.
