Your First IMRaD Translation

1. This is a live CAPA translation, so please take the task seriously.2. Remember: IMRaD is your friend!3. You will start this assignment in class, but finish it for homework.4. This will be your first e-Portfolio assignment. (You will be given your

individual site logins next week.)5. Have a look at the IMRaD first! (Especially Title+Abstract+Introduction.)6. In SmartCAT, download the bilingual pretranslated article first.7. Machine Translate the article using Google Translate.8. Copy and paste a third column into the Word document, and edit there

first.9. Finally, go to your assigned segments and make your post-edits.10. When you are satisfied with the post-edit, be sure to confirm each

segment.11. We will discuss the full translation in class next week.

Two-Step MT: Formatting in Word

1. Make sure you download the bilingual .docx fromSmartCAT.

2. Translate the original text again using Google Translate.

3. Search for “.” + space, then substitute for “.” + paragraph mark – for the entire document.

4. Clean up any unusual formatting.5. Align with bilingual SmartCAT text.6. Post-edit in Word using this 3-column format, but

only edit the middle column (the MT from SmartCAT).7. When done, transfer edits to your assigned segments.
