Differences between bacteria, fungi and viruses

•Bacteria are microorganisms•They can be of different sizes and shapes•Infections caused by bacteria can be treated with antibiotics•Some bacteria are not bad at all

BACTERIA

Fungi

◆Fungi can have different shapes

◆Fungus cells are similar to plant cells but they do not do their food

◆They realis carbon dioxide when they respire

◆Some of them are useful

.Fungi can have different shapes

.Fungus cells are similar to plant cells but they do not make their food. Some are unicellular (yeast) and multicellular (mould). Some of them are useful (for making bread, for e.g.)You can treat a fungal infection with a fungicide

FUNGI

VirusVIRUS

•Viruses are the smallest•they are made of DNA protein•They are not living organisms•To reproduce they have to enter a living cell•Viruses can be transmitted through the air, blood, person to person contact...

TOOTH DECAY

FRAN AND JOSE

Eggs-perimentBy: Felix Okecki, Gaston Posse, Juan Stordeur, Tin

Reynal, Mati Giambruni.

First Step

We placed half of one

egg in toothpaste and

the other half without

toothpaste.

Second step:

After one week, we placed the

egg in vinegar (acid).

Third Step:

We placed another

egg in vinegar for two

weeks.

Eggs-Periment

By Juan Cruz, Tota, Mechi, Isa

and Olivia

Results:Part of the egg that was not treated with toothpaste: its shell (like the tooth enamel) was damaged by the acid (vinegar).

Part that was treated with toothpaste (left):the shell remained on the egg.

This egg was placed in vinegar for 2

weeks.

No shell was left because it was destroyed

by the acid (vinegar)

Conclusion:

The toothpaste protects teeth from the

acids produced by bacteria.

How to prevent tooth decayBasically, what most helps prevent tooth decay is :

- Brushing our teeth minimum twice a day.

-Eating less sugars: after we eat, bacteria break down sugars producing acids which destroy tooth enamel, causing holes called cavities.

- Visit the dentist twice a year

We had a great visit!

Luca Weisz is a dentist and came to school to

tell us how to brush and take care of our

teeth.

THANKS!
