SAMR

• SAMR is a great framework

for thinking about technology and how it can

be best used in a teaching

environment to bring about

transformational learning

opportunities that wouldn’t

have been possible without

the technology.• The SAMR Model enables a

clearer path to transforming the learning

through technology

Page 5: SAMR - Roadmap to ICT Integration

SAMR

• Common language to enable teachers to draw out what they do and why • Children/Teachers

need to be exposed to the right tools to be able to move from enhancing to transformation

• Children need to develop a digital toolkit so they can make the choices about what tool fits the learning• We should be teaching

children about the SAMR model so they are involved in redesigning tasks

• Key characteristics is that

activities that wouldn’t have

been possible previously but

are now because of technology.

• Literacy could include collaborative writing online,

blogging, apps like Explain

Everything• Numeracy, those tools that

enable students having to

explain their understanding of

different concepts and ideas

are transformational such as

Explain Everything iPad or Book

Substitution• What will I gain by replacing the

older technology with the new

technology?Substitution to Augmentation

• Have I added an improvement to

the task process that could not

be accomplished with the older

technology at a fundamental

level?• How does this feature contribute

Augmentation to Modification• How is the original task

being modified?• Does this modification fundamentally depend upon the new technology?

original task be retained?• How is the new task

uniquely made possible by

the new technology?• How does it contribute to

Can you infer where or what I am?

Type on computer, print out.

Use PowerPoint to add clickable links

Use internet to research facts to come up with extended questions that extend vocab. (key word searching incidental learning)Use etherpad (online pad) to allow students to collaboratively scaffold inferencing questions and answers.

Use internet to research facts to come up with excellent questions that extend vocab. Store these questions in a QR Voice code. Save these to Voicethread where children from another class can comment adding their voice of what their answers will be collaboratively.

technology in your classroom, have a think about where the learning fits on the SAMR Scale.• Start to plan using
