Who was Saint Patrick?• Saint Patrick is the most famous patron saint of Ireland, BUT he was not Irish!

• He died on 17th March 461 and was buried in Downpatrick, a small town in the north of Ireland

• When he was sixteen years old, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders

• He was born in the 4th century AD, near the Welsh coast

• He was taken to Ireland where he worked as a slave

• He escaped from captivity and studied to be a priest
