Royal Project

Royal Project ( โครงการหลวง ) is a project under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty

the King. In 2512 B.E. King Bhumibol visited Doi-Pui near Bhubing Palace to see the lifestyle

of hill tribes ( ชาวไทยภูเขา หรือ ชาวเขา ) who grew opium for sell but the income wasn’t good.

He knew that hill tribes also grow the peaches that is the indigenous plants , the price of

peaches and opium are similar. So, the king established this Royal Project to help hill tribes

to increase income , decrease deforestation ,stop growing opium but grow peaches instead

and use space to gain the highest benefit for themselves and economy of Thailand.

This project is successful to help hill tribes and thai people

who live in the highland area. Highland area is suitable for grow cold-

climate plant because this area have cold climate and low temperature.

He started royal project and highland research institute for help hill

tribes develop and research new plants to grow ( almost of all plants

are cold-climate plant and indigenous plants ) such as red beans ( lima

and pinto 2 red bean species from America ) , strawberry , Arabica coffee , flowers and

ornamental plants. Hill tribes have jobs and get more

income by grow these plant and sell.

Doi Kham food products or products of royal

project is one of the shop that the consumer can trust,

they use the goods of royal project to make products

such as fruit Juice , dehydrated fruits , fruit Jam ,

preserved plum or frozen fruit.

Except success of royal project to hill tribes it also

have benefit for country by export goods get more income and increase the rate of growing

economy of the country , reduce the rate of import goods

(coffee ,wheat ,flowers and fruits) and have new product to

consume inside country.

Cause of this success project many country give cold-climate plants to grow and

allow the thai officer to observe in their country about agriculture and research to develop

highland. This project is the first project in the world to instead growing opium by growing

the indigenous plants.

Now they have 28 centers of the royal project operation located in five provinces,

including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and mae Hong Son in the northern part of Thailand.

Royal Project use the sufficiency economy by work and live in the middle way

Moderation : Hill tribes use their own space that they have. The king doesn’t give

them fertilizer ,medicine or plants ,this make them don’t beg or request for something very

much because he want to teach hill tribes to help themselves. Hill tribes will use only things

that they have not more or less.

Due consideration : Hill tribes have to think about their works or profit or the rate

of sufficiency under the cause , consider about the result prudently.
