Media Center Entrance
●Upon entering the school, the media center is directly ahead but the main entrance is on the side hallway. This makes it evenly and easily accessible to all classes on two long halls.

●The media center parapro does the majority of the check-outs.
●She often stays late in the afternoons re-shelving returned books
Office of the Media Specialist
Behind the windows is the office of the media specialist. Every other week, the technology person for the school also works from this office.
Class/Faculty Seating Area
● This is the area where the ms conducts classes daily and the principal holds weekly faculty meetings.
● Reference books are located on the shelves behind the seating area and student work is displayed.
● There is also an exit door here which is usually locked from the outside since it is not the main entrance.
Fiction Books
● The fiction book shelves in picture 1 enclose the area (to the right) where the ms holds classes.
● There is a huge amount of unused space where the rug lies in picture 2 that can be put to great use and not cause clutter in the media center.
Additional Seating Near Entrance
●Many parents and volunteers usually sit here to assist students one-on-one with skills indicated by their regular classroom teachers.
●The library entrance is to the left.
Non-Fiction BooksGuided Reading Books
● This corner of the mc (in picture 1) has chairs randomly spread out near the non-fiction book shelves. The chairs are only used when there is a faculty meeting.
● In picture 2, the wall shelf consists of guided reading books and a few books on tape.
Class Book-Reading Area
●The media specialist spends a great deal of time reading stories to K through 2nd grade classes.
●The entrance is wheel chair accessible.
Individual Reading Area
●The circulation line for check-outs runs down the center of this rug.
●The reading chairs are primarily used by students who are waiting for the rest of their classmates to check out books.
Computer Area
●These computers are primarily used for locating books and taking AR tests
●There are 8 computers in the mc available for student use
Meeting Room ●Parent conferences
are held in this room.●Testing also takes
place here when there is no other place to test small groups of students. This is also the room used for broadcasting the morning news!

● Ten 4th and 5th grade students were asked what they would like to see added to the media center
● Ten faculty/staff members including the MS and her parapro were asked what they would like to see done differently in the media center provided funding was available

●Overall, more technology was included in the media center to make it an inviting space for patrons.
●More computers were added to be used for internet use and not only to search for library books and taking AR tests.
●More inviting student- friendly chairs and a round table were added at the entrance.

●Credenza desks were added with Leappads stored below for ESOL and other student use. Books on tape can also be utilized here.
●An oval shaped table was added between the sofas for convenience.
●Shelves were shifted to make room for the additional computers.
Current Policy of the Media Center
-The media center requires and has a full-time media specialist and a full-time parapro -The media center is a wheelchair accessible facility but lacks the necessary accommodations for other disabilities represented in the school-The media center sq footage is equivalent to approximately 3,825 for nearly 847 students and therefore meets the sq footage requirements
Necessary Changes to the Current Policy
-Additional products can be purchased online at http://www.enablemart.com/About-Us to accommodate students with other disabilities such as visual and hearing impairments.
-The media center could benefit from having a full-time technology person with the amount of students in the school and if additional computers are purchased
