Note: this is different to the ‘Describe …’ question on the International Relations Paper 1 in two ways:

•It gives you a source, not a piece of information,

as a ‘memory-jogger’, and expects you to describe

it as part of your answer.

•It asks you about a much wider topic, and requires

you to answer in greater detail.

1. You already know how to assess t

Note that the mark scheme says that to earn full marks you need to describe ‘at least two’ aspects ‘in detail’ … so try

to give three!

‘in detail’ means facts, dates, names, specialised terms …

you need to know them!

The mark scheme says that this is how you are going to earn the 8 marks for this question:

•1 or 2 marks for your ‘description’ of the source•Up to 6 more marks for ‘detailed description of

several aspects’

•Why they were there; details of daily life such as

food and treatment; statistics such as how many
