Like all living things, we need oxygen to live. Our body gets oxygen when you breathe.

PARTS OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

NOSE

LUNGS

TRACHEA

DIAPHRAGM

The trachea is the main pipe, that goes from the nose and mouth to your lungs. It is found in the neck .

The air enters through the nose,

then the trachea leads it into the

chest to the lungs.

The trachea is divided into 2 main tubes, one leading to each lung.

The lungs are the place where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place.

The smallest b

ranches of

your air p

ipes connect to

air sacs. In

side, there are

capillarie

s.

When you breathe in, air filled with oxygen collects in the air sacs. Carbon dioxide passes back through the capillary walls into the air sacs. When you breathe out, carbon dioxide travels and goes out.

The oxygen passes through the

very tiny walls of the capillaries

into your blood.

Involuntary muscle th

works to m

ake space in

your chest to

let the air

you breathe in.

DIAPHRAGM

It is a smooth muscle stretched across the bottom of your lungs

When it contracts,

it gets flatter and

pulls the lungs down.

When you breathe out, the muscles relax and the lungs shrink.

3. How does the air enter to our body?

5. Why is the diaphragm important?

The air enters to our body through the nose or the mouth, then it goes to trachea and reaches the lungs.

Because it makes space in your chest to let the air you breathe in.

LET’S REMEMBER!1. Which are the main organs of the Respiratory System?

The nose and mouth, the trachea, the lungs and the diaphragm.

2. How many lungs do we have ?

We have two lungs.

4. Where does the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide occur?

In the trachea. In the lungs. In the diaphragm.
