Preliminary TaskOur preliminary task was a continuity task, it was our first filming exercise. It included a character walking towards a door, opening the door, then sitting down at a table opposite another character and exchanging lines of dialogue with another character. It demonstrated match on action, shot reverse shot and the 180-degree rule. Since then, our knowledge on shots and angles has expanded and we have tried multiple different types in our 2-minute film, Psychosis.

In the preliminary task, we used shot reverse shot between the two characters to show a conversation. We also did this in our film Psychosis where our main character Jennifer is having a conversation with her sister. In our film we had better quality shots to make the film of a higher quality. These shots below are also over the shoulder shots to allow the audience to see what the character sees.Preliminary Task: Psychosis:

In psychosis, we did much more editing than we did in the preliminary task to add dramatic effect and to make the film scarier for the audience. We used high angle and low angle shots to show the vulnerable and powerful characters, this wasn’t done in the preliminary task as it didn’t need to have the psychological effect to show the status of the characters.

In the preliminary task, we only edited the shots to make it match on action to show that we understood how to do the shots. However, in our 2 minute film Psychosis we expanded on our knowledge of shots and we showed a variety of different shots and angles. We did this by including the High angle and Low angle shots above. These shots showed that Jennifer is a vulnerable character and that the mysterious character on the right has power in the situation and is a possible threat towards Jennifer. We didn’t include shots like these in our Preliminary task.
