Most Pop music magazine are mostly aimed a female audience. This is because the magazine involves fashion, gossip and celebrity news as well as the main purpose of music. I wanted to change this as I though boys liked Pop too but there was no real magazine aimed at them.
GenderMy magazine was aimed at both
genders but with maybe a bit more of a female target but not by much. The colour scheme I
choose was blue and red and this was good for the mixed gender audience as it appeals to both genders not just one. Also the
text style was not girls font so the boys reading the magazine would
like it and continue to buy the magazine.
The artists I used throughout my magazine were all male and this would
mostly appeal to female audience as it is what they like to see. However the males reading the magazine would like it too as the interviews from them are talking mostly about music which they would prefer and this is different to other pop magazines as they
usually ask more questions which a female audience would like to hear.
The contents in my magazine would be affected by what genre
predominantly reads the magazine. If it was read by mostly
female I would include fashion and gossip pages with regular
sections about boy bands such as one direction. On the other hand
if it was mostly male then it would include more about female artists and male tailored articles. As it is aimed at both I will get a
mix between both in the magazine.
The target age for my music magazine would be from around 14-22. I think this is mainly because the Pop genre of music is the most popular genre for his age group so the magazine would be best suited to this age group. The people who listen to Pop are usually trendies as they follow music and fashion trends set by there friends and peers.
I aimed the magazine at this age group in many different ways. I tried to make the cover, contents and DPS look formal as well as being interesting and not too boring. I
did this with the colour scheme by adding quite a few colours but not too boring. I also added little effects and shapes that would be unusual and appeal to the age group such
as the semi circle on the contents and the stamp on the DPS.
As the age group of my magazine is young and
probably don’t work or if they don’t they will
probably earn too much I decided to make the
magazine fairly cheap. This means more of my age group will buy the magazine as they have
enough to buy it.
The age group of the magazine is young and they are more used to
reading of a screen than a magazine. This means
they find out there news on there favourite pop artist or band on there twitter feed rather than
an music magazine. I had to take this into
consideration when designing the magazine so
it will be appealing to them and I did this
through making it cheap and with competitions
too. Finally I will make a digital version available
fro download which may be more favourable with
the age group.
Age
Social Class
The target audience most likely to read my magazine is probably working or middle class. Children of theses backgrounds are usually the ones interested in pop and lead fairly normal lives for a teenager. As of there intelligence level they will most likely
have enough money to but the magazine or there parents may even buy it for them every week.
There isn’t really a specific intelligence or education
level of the readers as you may associate some
intelligence levels with some music genres.
However the average intelligence level of my
target audience will probably be average and they probably come from an average working class family background. They
are probably well behaved in society and follow what
there friends do.
The clothing this social group will be affected by things in the media such as magazines like mine. The current clothing for this group is fairly casual with some smart wear. This is why I made the magazine artists wear clothing like this as it
represents the genre and keeps the realism.
The buyers of the magazine will probably live somewhere in the city or suburbs and not many readers will live in the countryside. This is mostly because of the social class as most working middle class live in the city and Pop music and ideology
is more prominent in the city areas.
