Q4: How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

In todays life using technologies is very important part of creating new media i.e. video, advertising advert, digipack, etc that stands out against other competition. Without the following hardware and software technologies I wouldn’t have been able to create my music video, digipack cover, magazine advert and record on my blog.The hardware that I used the most in the creation of my work was the apple iMac computer. I did everything using the apple mac i.e. research, planning, created and evaluated my work. The reason I used a iMac instead of a more popular Windows is because the interface is more user friendly for the use of my purpose.

Hardware:The Apple iMac has a 2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor with a 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory. The computer are very fast but the computers that I used have been set up with the schools x-serve i.e. so you can access the windows operating system and also use the OSX v10.6.8 . The computers sometimes tend to delay, but on the whole they are quite fast. I enjoy using these computers because they are very well designed and the quality of the images on the screen are much better compared to the windows computers because they have an LED backlight in comparison to any other computer.

Hardware:Apple Keyboard and MouseI used the keyboard to type text onto the screen and also used the USB socket on the side of the keyboard to plug my flash drive into. This was very covenant as then I didn’t have to turn the whole iMac screen around to insert my USB drive.

I used the mouse to navigate around the screen and also took advantage of the little ball on the mouse to scroll up and down on the screen webpage of the iMac computer.

Hardware:I used a Canon Legria HD HF R56 camcorder to film the footage of my music video.The camcorders features are : • 8GB flash memory plus SDXC card slot for

Hardware:It was quite easy to use the Canon Legria HD HF R56 camcorder to film my footage for the music video. The thing that I liked the most about the camcorder was that it had a very user friendly interface so for a newbie like me at first the functions are all visible on the screen and the functions i.e. zoom, etc are very easy to use and function.On the other had for my first camcorder I used a more older version of Canon camcorder and few of the functions were multi used i.e. the filming button when flicked to the side changes the zoom function to film in manual set up of the vision. I had difficulty filming with that camcorder as this function made my footage blurry. The draw back of the camera is that sometimes it auto focused at points when I didn’t want it too and sometimes the picture looked bad quality. There after I asked to change to the modern Canon camcorder to film my footage which was the Canon Legria HD camcorder HF R56. Another feature to this camera which helped me a lot was that you could flip the screen which showed what the camera was filming. This helped my as then I could show my artist the shot before starting to film.

HardwareI used a Jessops Tripod for majority of my filming of the music video. It helped reduce the camera shaking, movement and provided a stability/clean filming footage. This on the whole gave me a more professional filming for my music video.

HardwareI used a SD card, 4GB, class 10 to insert into the camcorder to store my filming shot. Thereafter this would help me to transfer the footage onto the iMac computer in school.

I used a SD card reader, USB interact to get my footage off the SD card that is inside the Canon video camera, onto the computer so that I could import it to Final Cut software and edit it.

HardwareI used a Nikon D3100 DSLR Camera to take photos of my artist. The photos would be used for my digipack cover/back and also used for my music magazine advert. The reason I used a this specific camera instead of a standard digital camera is because the DSLR has an interchangeable lenses, an exact view of through the lens of what your outcome photo would be. On the other hand a standard digital camera view would be a digitalised vision of what the outcome would be.

HardwareUser accounts, backup & Server - Network driveThe computers that are used in school are all linked to servers which makes it a network. For example. If I log on anywhere in the school I would be able to access my user area and my documents with work. The music video due to the mass size of the file it is saved on the specific desktop. All the work and documents on the network drive is backed up daily by the school IT services.

Hardware

I used Apple headphones to hear the music and audio so that I could edit the visuals in time with the audio.

I used the Epson V300 scanner to scan my storyboard to upload onto my blog.

Hardware:I used my iPhone 5 smart mobile phone to put my music mp3 of Hoodie Allen onto the iMac, I used to play the track music loud while filming so I can film my artist lips, etc inline with the music and also when i finished editing my video completely I put the music video onto my phone and I used the phone to show my video to people/friends to get my audience feedback.

Software:Apple Final Cut Pro X v.10.0.9 is a professional video editing software were you can import footage, videos, audio and edit. The software is top of the range for this purpose and very expensive. This is because of the vast range of freedom that it gives you in the editing of video and audio.My video has a lot of fast editing and effects, and it was important that I edited my graphics well and matched shots and angles together in time with the music in order to create a good quality music video. I did this using final cut. There is a wide range of transitions and effects that can be placed on top of the original video footage to give it a particular feel and mood. For example my video is about a boy chasing a girl and starts with them separate and then at the end they meet. In particular one of the effects that Final Cut software allowed me to do is put the affect of the train passing and having my artist to be carrying on in front. So blending the two footage together really give an excellent shot in the video, which can be seen on my video. The effects completely transformed my footage to make it go from unprofessional into a good standard of professional quality.

Software:File Converter - Free Video Converter v.2.30 – LeandI used a free video converter to change the format of the file from Final Cut Pro format to be viewable on other devices such as : computer, mobile phones and tables. To do this i needed to change the format of the file to AVI which is a format that would work on nearly all devises.

Google Search EngineI used Google search engine to do the research for my music video. This includes: artist research, images, and ideas for my music video and digi pack. Some of the website I used was Wikipedia which helped me on information about my artist and his history and how he got to were he is now.

Software:I used Adobe Photoshop CS5 to design my digipack front cover, back and magazine advert.

Software:I used Safari web browser to get access to the web which is created by Apple. Some of the thing I did to get access to the web while creating my media product was to record/use my blog, research artsiest and research existing digipack designs. It allows me to browse the internet without the distraction of ads that would normally distract me from online research with its state of the art technology. Through Safari Reader I was able to access WordPress, YouTube any other websites that I needed for my research. It is not possible to search the internet with an internet browser.

Online Software/ WebsiteWordpress.com is an online internet blogging platform that allows anyone to create their own blog. It can be private or public depending on the settings you choice. My media blog is private with only my teachers linked so that they could comment and suggest any changes to my work that need to be made. It helped me to create my media product by giving me a space to write and plan my music video as well as to show the progress of my work from the very begging right to the end of the final product. Below is a screenshot of my blog and how it looks at present.

Online Software/ WebsiteI used YouTube.com For my artist research i.e. research on his music, research different artists music video filming and once the music video was finish we uploaded the video to YouTube so the video has a platform to sit on and also to get audience feedback and comments.

I used Microsoft PowerPoint to answer question four for my evaluation.

Online Software/ WebsiteI used SlideShare.net to host my PowerPoint i.e. the current presentation. To inserted onto my wordpress blog I need to share the presentation. The method to do this would be to first design a presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint and then make an account on SlideShare.net. Thereafter to upload the presentation so it sits on a platform. Finally share the presentation by copy and pasting the link code into your blog.

Online Software/ WebsiteFor our question 1 evaluation I used Prezi to demonstrated a use of current media technology. They way we demonstrated this was to create a Prei presentation to answer the question. Prei.com is way to create an online presentation. Basically the layout is a huge board were in presentation mode it would rotate to individual section and even zoom in. you can also embed videos add sound to the presentation.

Online Software/ WebsiteI used Twitter/ Facebook to post my finish music video to get audience comments and feedback.

Online Software/ WebsiteI downloaded a verity of fonts from a website called dafont.com. This was to use on my digi-pak and advert. To download a font on a Apple IMAC I had to use the Fontbook. I previously knew how to download fonts but only on a Windows operating system, I realised that using it on Apple Mac OS X-v10.6.4 it was much easier and quick as you did not have to enter a specific Windows running code.

Broadband Provider

The schools broadband provider is SWGFL. This is what is needed for an internet connection. Without an internet provider my media product would be limited as i wouldn’t be able to work/record online with web software such as WordPress blogging platform.
