and enabled us to reach this season!

this is AHASHVEROSH

who reigned, from India to

Ethiopia, over a hundred

and seven and twenty

provinces—

that in those days, when

sat on the throne of his

[The king demanded that]

Vashti the queen come

After these things, when

the anger of King

Achashverosh was

ointments be given them;

and let the maiden that

pleases the king be queen

instead of Vashti.' And this

idea pleased the king; and

he did so.

There was a certain Jew in

Shushan the fortress city,

whose name was

MORDECHAI the son of

Yair the son of Shim’i the

son of Kish, a Benjamite,

who had been carried away

from Jerusalem with the

captives that had been

carried away with

Yechoniah king of Judah,

whom Nebuchadnezzar the

king of Babylon had exiled.

Hadassah, that is,

The young woman was

shapely and beautiful.

After her father and

mother died, Mordecai

took her for his own

daughter.

Esther was taken to the palace

together with all the other

young women.

The king loved Esther

above all the women, and

she obtained grace and

favor in his sight more

than all the virgins; he set

the royal crown upon her

head, and made her

queen instead of Vashti.

Then the king made a great

feast for all his princes and his

servants: it was Esther’s feast!

He made a release to the

provinces, and gave gifts,

according to the bounty of the

king.

19 And when the virgins

were gathered together

the second time,

Mordecai sat in the king's

CHAPTER 3

After these things, King

Achashverosh promoted

Haman the son of Hamdata

the Agagite, and advanced

him, and set his seat above

all the princes that were with

him. All the king's servants

that were in the king's gate

bowed down and prostrated

themselves before Haman,

as the king had instructed.

But Mordecai didn’t bow

down and didn’t prostrate.

The king's servants in the

king's gate, said unto

Mordecai: 'Why do you

transgress the king's

commandment?‘

When they spoke daily

unto him, he didn’t listen

them. They told Haman

to see whether

Mordecai's words would

stand; for he had told

them that he was a Jew.

And when Haman saw

that Mordecai bowed not

down, nor prostrated

himself before him,

Haman was full of anger!

But he disparaged the

idea of laying hands on

Mordecai alone; for they

had told him about

Mordecai’s nation. Haman

sought to destroy all the

Jews in the entire kingdom

of Achashverosh, the

people of Mordecai.

In the first month, which is

the month of Nisan, in the

twelfth year of king

Achashverosh, they cast

lots before Haman

concerning every day and

every month, until it fell on

the twelfth month, which is

the month of Adar.

people, and they do not observe the king's laws. It is

not in the King’s interest to tolerate them.

And the king took his ring

from his hand, and gave it

to Haman the son of

Hammedatha the Agagite,

the enemy of the Jews.

CHAPTER 4

Now when Mordecai knew

all that was done,

Mordecai tore his clothes,

and put on sackcloth with

ashes, and went out into

the midst of the city, and

cried with a loud and a

bitter cry; and he came in

front of the king's gate; for

no one was allowed to

enter the king's gate

wearing sackcloth.

And in every province,

wherever the king's

command and degree

reached, there was great

mourning among the

Jews, and fasting, and

weeping, and wailing.

Everyone lay in sackcloth

and ashes.

What risky decision did Mordechaiwant Esther to make?

Mordecai must get an urgent message to Queen

people and I, to be destroyed,

massacred, and

exterminated. Had we only

been sold as slaves, I would

have kept silent, for our

enemy is not worthy of the

king’s trouble.
