KINDERGARTEN WITH EXTENDED PROGRAM NO. 2 HUSI, ROMANIA

1. Shorter showers would be a good start. Showers take two thirds of the water consumption costs;

2. Were you born in a car? Even so, it would not be bad idea to use public transportation now and then, and if you would start walking more the benefit would be double;

Page 3: Problemes ambientals Romania

3. Purchased merchandise should use less packaging, this could mean less waste;

4. Is it that cold?! If you are cold, you could put on more clothes than turning up the heat to the maximum, this way you save energy and money.

5. Unused electronics, left unplugged produce a lot of toxic gas, to whom is it useful? Unplug electronics when you leave the house;

1-I keep public places clean and use the dedicated spaces for waste disposal

2-I do not dispose anything in lakes, big rivers or any other natural water

3-I protect the plants, animals, fish and the birds4-I use a car that does not create pollution in high levels5- I volunteer to participate in ecological activities

Page 5: Problemes ambientals Romania

6-I am careful not to consume a large quantity of water

7-I save on electricity whenever I can8-I walk in parks on rollers or biking 9-I take waste bags with me when I am

out for a picnic10-I immediately announce

authoritities whenever I notice an ecological incident.

We are ecologists! Don’t you want to

be one? It’s easy, respect

the rules!

RECYCLING...RECYCLING...RECYCLING...

Page 8: Problemes ambientals Romania

‘To Recycle’ is the third term among the three RE: to Reduce, to Reuse, to Recycle

-But before presenting the 4 reasons (among many others) why each of us should recycle at least part of materials and packages we use every day, we must mention the following:

-The first step in reducing personal consumption – if you don’t need it, don’t buy it! – in this way you will reduce the quantity of wasted materials;

Page 9: Problemes ambientals Romania

When you buy a product, choose a brand that uses packages made from recycled materials; for example, if plastic materials are used, the plastic can be recycled and less of it will be wasted, this will help keep the hills and the ocean cleaner and unpolluted;

Before throwing something away, think how it could be used in a useful way. For example, can you reuse a container to plant something or to keep your paper clips in it? Or can you reuse the packaging for a gift? Or can you donate it to an orphanage or elderly home? Then don’t throw it away, recycle it!

These things might seem simple and obvious for some of us, but many of us forget to ask themselves these questions before throwing away waste to garbage.

BECAUSE :

1.       Every ton of recycled paper saves 17 trees and uses less energy and water. If all paper in every household would be recyled worldwide, 750 000 cubical metres of forest would be saved every year, preventing local authorities from spending enormous amounts of money for collecting waste.

Also, the saved energy from recycling paper in a year could be used by 512 households for electricity for one year. We recycle paper!

2.   Bottles are recyclable, but they are not biodegradable. The raw materials used to make bottles – sand, sodium carbonate, calcium oxyde – are extrated from soil, and melted together at very high temperatures. Thus, through recycling, energy is saved. The energy saved from recycling one bottle is equivalent to the power used by a bulb to light a room for one hour. Also, every ton of recycled bottles saves 1,2 tons of raw materials. We recycle bottles!

3.    Cans from canned froods are totally recyclable. They are melted to create steal.  This significantly reduces mining of metal and at the same time saves the energy used for mining. We recycle cans!

4.      In 2007, 562 millions of PET/plastic products have been made out of recyled plastic. This helped keep 19 000 tons of platic away from the green spaces, and they only represent a quarter of PET/plastic production in 2007. If you still need reasons to understand how useful recycling is, look around you: at the garbage thrown away on sidewalks, the green spaces covered with waste when you go for a family picnic, the polluted Rivers and full of PET/plastic waste…

Think if this is the environment in

which you wish to grow-up and live…

Recycle as much as you can! You can start by recycling paper. There are many recycling centers where you can give away the paper you no longer need. Keep the paper you don’t need anymore in a large bag, then when you have accumulated enough recycling paper, don’t think twice, find out where is your closest paper collecting center and give away all paper you have collected.

And don’t forget – a ton of paper is made out of one single tree.
