S3.B.3.1.1: Identify the living and nonliving components of an ecosystem (e.g., living [plants, animals]; nonliving [water, soil, air]).
S3.B.1.1.2: Classify living things based on their characteristics.

Before creating their final project students will have an understanding of living and non-living organisms and how to identify them.
Students will have been introduced to the story of Thumbelina.
Students will have had hands on experiences with their environment in an educational setting.

encounter/ who and what did she interact with in the outdoors?
Instruct on the difference between living and non-living organisms Thumbelina had contact with.
Students will take their own mini adventure field trip to the grounds around the school. Students will bring notebooks to draw or take notes on what they see and observe.

Talk about findings and decide as a class what are the living and what are the non-living organisms in their environment.
The final aspect of the lesson is the art project.

Using new and recycled materials students will make moveable pictures/ pieces to place on their posters
