with me! has been funded
with support from the European Commission

population of 1.27
million people.
The history of Sofia dates
back to the 7th century BC,
when Thracians established
a settlement there.
The city has had severalnames throughout its history,and remnants of the old city
can still be seen today.
The 6th centurySaint Sophia church, which gave its name
to the city
Sofia became the capitalof the autonomous
Principality of Bulgariain 1879,
which becamethe Kingdom of Bulgaria
in 1908.
Today Sofia isa beautiful and modern city.
