How to make the passivevoice.
Uses:
• When we say what happens to people and things, we often use passive verb forms like is/are indicated, was/were announced, or has/have been discovered.
• When we say what people and things do, we use active verb forms like indicates, announced, or has discovered.
• It is often used in business when the object of the action is more important than those who perform the action.
PRESENT SIMPLE
• [Subject] + [be] + [participle of verb] + [by] + [thing doing action]
For example:
Active: Maria buys bread
Passive: The bread is bought by Maria
PAST SIMPLE
• [Subject] + [be] + [participle of verb] + [by] + [thing doing action]
For example:
Active: Maria buoght bread
Passive: The bread was bought by Maria
PRESENT PERFECT
• [Subject] + [Have] + [been] + [participle of verb] + [by] + [thing doing action]
For example:
Active: Maria has bought bread
Passive: The bread has been bought by Maria
PAST PERFECT
• [Subject] + [Had] + [been] + [participle of verb] + [by] + [thing doing action]
For example:
Active: Maria had bought bread
Passive: The bread had been bought by Maria
FUTURE WITH WILL
• [Subject] + [will] + [be] + [participle of verb] + [by] + [thing doing action]
For example:
Active: Maria will buy bread
Passive: The bread will be bought by Maria
FUTURE WITH GOING TO
• [Subject] + [be] + going to be] + [participle of verb] + [by] + [thing doing action]
For example:
Active: Maria is going to buy bread
Passive: The bread is going to be bought by Maria
MODAL VERBS
• [Subject] + [Modal verb] + [be + verb+ing] + [participle of verb] + [by] + [thing doing action]
For example:
Active: Maria could bought bread
Passive: The bread could be being bought by Maria
Active to passive transformation
• Para pasar de activa a pasiva, el sujeto debe ir al final de la frase precedido de “by”.
Example:
active: They are eating pizza
passive: The pizza are being eaten by them
Active to passive transformation
• Hay que recordar cambiar el sujeto cuando sea necesario (They-them, she- her, I-me…etc)
Example:
active: They are eating pizza
passive: The pizza are being eaten by them
Examples:
• Active: I should do my homework.• Passive: The homework should be done by me.
• Active: You have broken the glass.• Passive: The glass has been broken by you.
• Active: Sometimes, Paco has been doing his work.• Passive: Sometimes, His work has been being done by Paco.
• Active: Carla is going to eat the dinner.• Passive: The dinner is going to be eaten by carla.
• Active: Tomorrow, Pedro will be washing his clothes.• Passive: Tomorrow, His clothes will be being washed by Pedro.
