Present Tense of –ar Verbs

Notes

Subject Pronouns (singular)

Yo = I

Tú = you (informal)

Él = He

Ella = She

Usted (Ud.) = you (formal)

Subject Pronouns (plural)

Nosotros = We (masculine)

Nosotras = We (feminine)

Vosotros = You all (masculine & informal)

Vosotras = You all (feminine & informal)

Ellos = They (masculine)

Ellas = They (feminine)

Ustedes (Uds.) = you all (formal/informal)

VERBS express actions or states of being.

INFINITIVE - simplest form of a verbENGLISH INFINITIVE: begins with the word "to"TO SPEAK

SPANISH INFINITIVE: ends with -ar, er, irHABLAR, COMER, VIVIR

**An infinitive is NOT used by itself. It must be conjugated (changed) or used with another conjugated verb.

Verbs are made up of two parts-

Part 1: Stem

Part 2: Ending

Hablar - Habl = stem

-ar = ending

How to conjugate –ar verbs

- ar verbs:

1) drop the –ar so you're left with the stem

2) Add ending

-ar endings
