We use the present perfect: for actions which happened at an unstated indefinite time in the past. The exact time is not important.
My parents have bought a new horse. (When did they buy it? We don’t know when; the time is not mentioned.)
Jack has been to London twice. (When? We don’t know.)
O She has broken her arm. (The exact time is not mentioned what is important is the fact that her arm is broken.)
O Jack has bought a new horse. (The exact time is unimportant or unknown. What is important is the fact that he now owns a new horse.)
O We use the present perfect: for actions which started in the past and are still continuing in the present. I have known Sue for five years. (We met five years ago and we still know each other.) My father has worked here for seven years. (He started working here seven years ago and He still works here.)
