Provide Regular Opportunities for Students to Have Choice

Where can you insert choice in your program?

• Where they learn• How they learn• With whom they work• How they demonstrate what they know,

understand and can do?• Choice Should be Both Guided and Limited• Have both “Must do’s” and May Do’s”

…emotional hooks are necessary to long term learning;

Emotions are the gatekeepers to the intellect

Implications:• There is no such thing as “not paying attention”• What our brain pays attention to is influenced by

a number of factors, which we as teachers need to be aware of and be willing to take advantage of.

• Novelty and other unconscious sensory activities help students to focus and to participate

• Choice needs to be regularly available in our program to engage students brains

• Try new activities involving a variety of tasks.
