A View To The Data 4

Background Information

A View To The Data 5

• Converted to Banner 2005 – 2007

• Early adopter of Argos

• Many reports in production

• Heavily using the scheduler

Why Views?

• SQL challenged (me, not everyone)

• First moved to Banner – not familiar with SQL or the Banner tables – also new to Argos (we used Argos on PLUS to become familiar with it) – Concerned that we would be

reporting incorrect information and not know

• Joins already done – SunGardHE supplies many views where much information is available (student, employee, constituent)

A View To The Data 6

Why Not Views ?

• Performance Issues

• Some people prefer tables only

A View To The Data 7

PROCESS

 • Create Argos report that defines the output

• Use generated SQL from Argos to create the view

A View To The Data 8

Samford Created Views

• My Views are set up in a separate folder within my directory• The Argos to create the view is called xxxxxxxxx_view• The output of the view is xxxxxx_vw
