What is a Character?*Characters- People represented in a story.

* Main Character- The person that the events in the story include.

* EXAMPLES OF CHARACTERS-

• The main character in The Lorax is Lorax. This book is about him.

• A character in One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish is Gack. The story is not about him, but he is in the book.

What is a Author?

The Author is the person who writes the story.

What is a Illustrator?

The person who draws the pictures.

oEXAMPLES Of AN AUTHOR-

Dr. Seuss- He has written many books.

He wrote The Lorax, The Foot Book, One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish, and The cat in the hat!

EXAMPLES OF AN ILLUSTRATOR-

*Dr. Seuss is an illustrator because he draws all the pictures

for his books.

*Most authors do not draw their own pictures.

What is the main idea?

• The main idea is the most important part of the story.

• Ask yourself- What is the story really about?

EXAMPLES OF THE MAIN IDEA?

• In The Cat in the Hat the weird cat plays with the kids.

• In The Lorax they recycle things.
