The Department was established in 1946. From its involvement in handling various

problems resulting from the Second World War, the Department’s role and functions have expanded to cover prevention and rehabilitation services on social issues as well as community development.

ACCEPTANCE PERIOD

1. Public Assistance (for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya)

Min: -

RM80.00 a month

Max: -

RM350.00 per month family

Provide assistance to target groups that are not capable and the Department needs to alleviate their financial difficulties on a temporary basis until a long time or they can be independent

• Income per month in PLI• disabled persons in need.• Stranded People.• The destitute.• The case of women and girls and so on.• Family needs and can not afford

2. State General Assistance

Monthly assistance rates vary by state

Each state has a State General Assistance Scheme of its own. Conditions of eligibility and assistance rates are not uniform among the states depends on the policies and provisions of the State Government respectively.

3. Financial Assistance for Children

Min: -

RM100 a month.

Max: -

RM450 per month to family more than four (4) in one family.

Helping poor children and needs to be able to continue living with their families to enjoy the love, attention, and proper care.

Help maintain and strengthen the family institution is involved in order to be independent and continue to care their children properly.

• Families who are providing care to the child (children)

• A child under the age of 18 years.

• Children of school age, it is necessary to continue schools:

• Children orphaned / orphan

• Children who have parents / guardians who can not afford or drop their livelihood because of sickness, disability, sick or dependent prisoners or detention centers.

5. Financial Assistance for Carers of Bed-Ridden Disabled and Chronivally ill

RM300 a month

• To help alleviate the burden of care expenses faced by family caregivers

• Encouraging better care to the target groups and disabled patients confined to chronic disaster

• Enhancing the quality of life of target groups involved

• prevent or reduce the entry of the target groups concerned to the Welfare and Institutions

• To enhance the well being of the family.

• The applicant is the guardian of a disabled family member / patient Chronic lying

• Malaysian citizen and resident in Malaysia

caregiver providing care to Chonic Bedridden family member on full time basis

• household income not exceeding RM3, 000 per month

CONCLUSION• Overall, transfer payments such as financial

assistance from the Social Welfare Department can help the poor to cover the their daily expenses or to start a business.

• Transfer payments can help increase people's purchasing power, thus reducing the incidence of poverty and support economic growth in the country.
