AUDIENCE

Pop is a main genre in itself and has a huge audience. TV stations like ‘VIVA’ and ‘4MUSIC’ tend to heavily broadcast

pop music as that is the music which is being sold these days as the audience – Teens/young adults.

Audience can also consist of fans or fanbases, for example fans of the pop singer Justin Bieber call themselves “Beliebers”.

Pop songs tend to have many hooks, which become catchy and then help to sell the song because if it’s catchy people sing it and if people sing it people hear and share it.

GENRE

Pop Music comes from the original name ‘Popular Music’ which was found in the 1950s deriving from Rock and Roll in Britain.

Pop was a main genre of music which started to be created for the purpose of profit.

Bands like McFLY, were put together by producers and sold as an item to gain profit.

The genre of Pop has been lost a bit, as pop used to be a shortened term for popular. Now pop has codes and conventions and isn’t just ‘mainstream’ anymore.

INFLUENCES ON POP

Michael Jackson and Madonna were seen as the King and Queen of pop. They helped set up music television channels like MTV.

Not only have there been influences on Pop but Pop has influenced people. For example, social pressure to wear certain things, talk in a certain manner and in general everyday life.

Pop gives people the influence of “live for the day, forget about the past”, it is where the acronym “YOLO” (You Only Live Once) originated.
