SummaryThe Pigs can't wait to throw their annual Halloween party.
But when Grandpa and Grandma Pig eat all of the guest’s
candy, the Pigs have to make a last minute trip to the
supermarket, where Mrs. Pig wins a free shopping spree for
being the one millionth customer. Mrs. Pig feels sure she has got enough candy to
share now, until they get home and see the amount of guests
waiting on them to arrive.
Problem• How much did all the candy that
the pigs ate weigh?
• In order to find how much all the candy
that the pigs ate weighs, we need to
know the weights of the packages…..
Go back in the story to look at the
packages for weight and quantity.
• Ghouly Drops:
– 20 Giant Drops = 12 oz (340 g)
• Jelly Spiders:
– 24 Spiders = 11 oz (312 g)
• Pound O’ Pumpkin:
– 16 Chocolate Treats = 16 oz (454 g)
• Witches Brooms:
– 40 Licorice Brooms = 20 oz (567 g)
– 36 Licorice Brooms = 18 oz (510 g)
• Red Hot Jumbos:
– 12 Jumbos = 6 oz (170 g)
• Wiggly Worms:
– 80 Worm Pack = 28 oz (794 g)
– 60 Worm Pack = 21 oz (595 g)
Gouly Drops:
6 packs with five rows of
four gumdrops
Jelly Spiders:
3 bags with three rows of
eight spiders
Pound O’ Pumpkins:
4 buckets with four rows
of four pumpkins

• Ghouly Drops: 12oz + 12oz + 12oz + 12oz + 12oz + 12oz = (12 X 6) = 72 oz
• Jelly Spiders:11oz + 11oz + 11oz = (11 X 3) = 33oz
• Pound O’ Pumpkins:16oz + 16oz + 16oz + 16oz = (16 X 4) = 64oz
• Witches Brooms:18oz + 18oz = (18 X 2) = 36oz
• Red Hot Jumbos:6oz
• Wiggly Worms:28oz
• Drops (72oz) + Spiders (33oz) + Pumpkins (64oz) + Brooms (36oz) + Jumbos (6oz) + Worms (28oz) = 239oz
BONUS!
• How many grams do we have if we have 239 ounces?
• How many pounds is 239 ounces?
• Remember:
• 16 ounces = 1 pound
• 1 ounce = 28.35 grams
ANSWERS:
• We have 239oz
• 239 X 28.35g = 6775.65 grams
• 239 ounces / 16 ounces (in a pound) = 14.9375 pounds
