CAUSES• Sinking of the U.S. battleship

• Control/helping Cuba for their independence

(MANIFEST DESTINY)

• Letter of the Spanish Ambassador to a friend in Havana, Cuba



RESULT• APRIL 24, 1898

Spanish declared war against the United States. The next day, U.S. Congress declared a war on Spain.

APRIL 25, 1898Commodore George Dewey proceed against the Spanish fleet anchored in Manila Bay



• Battle of Manila Bay began on May 1,

1898 at 5:40 a.m. and ended at noon.





The Treaty of Paris resulted in theUnited States gaining control overGuam and Puerto Rico. Also resulted inCuba gaining its independence fromSpain. The United States also keptcontrol over The Philippines in exchangefor twenty million dollars.
