Input Peripherals

How do input peripherals work?

When a user press a key, one electric switch is closed.

A chip detects that event and save it in a buffer.

When it's possible, the information goes out the buffer to be encoded in zeros and ones, code which is sent to the computer through the input port.

Processor receives the data and processes it as the application or operating system may decide.

Output Peripherals Characteristics

The screen size is measured ever in INCHES.

Resolution is expressed as a product of pixels: 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, etc.

Printers are characterized by their speed (in pages per minute, ppm) and their resolution (in dots per inch, dpi)

Conclusion

Peripherals are devices which can be connected to the computer.

They allow the introduction and exit of data.

We can sort them as:
Input Peripherals,
Output Peripherals, and
Input/Output Peripherals

Keyboard and Mouse are the most important Input Peripherals. Cameras, Webcams and Scanners are Input Peripherals too.

Monitor and Printer are main Output Peripherals.

Hard Disk drives, Memory Sticks, Re-writeable Disks, and external connections (Ethernet, Modem) are Input/Output Peripherals.
