Thunderstorms

Heavy rains, Lightning Flashes, Thunder Roars, And Hail falls during a thunder storm.

When rising air, water vapor condenses into water droplets or ice crystals.

Warm, moist air can be forced upward where it cools and condensation occurs, forming cumulonimbus clouds.

Thunderstorm Damage

•Thunderstorms can stall over a region, causing rain to fall heavily for a period of time.•Strong winds can cause damage.•Hail from a thunderstorm can dent cars and aluminum siding on houses.

Lightning and

Thunder•A typical bolt of lightning can immediately heat the air to between 15,000 to 60,000 degrees Fahrenheit. (That's hotter than the surface of the sun!)•It's that explosion of air that creates sound waves, which we hear and call thunder.•Lightning always produces thunder.

Tornadoes

•Some of the most severe thunderstorms produce tornadoes.•A violent, whirling wind that moves in a narrow path over land.•A tornadoes' destructive winds can rip apart buildings and uproot trees.

Page 7: pd 4 group 6

Hurricanes

•The most powerful storm.•A large, swirling, low-pressure system that forms over the warm Atlantic ocean.•Hurricanes can destroy crops, demolish buildings, and kill people and other animals.

Blizzards

•If the winds are 56 km/h, the temperature is low, the visibility is less than 400 m in falling or blowing snow, and if these conditions persist for three or more hours.•Occurs in the winter.
