A book has many parts

• Printed books have not always been made the way they are today.

• Once, books were scrolls of paper.

• Other times, they were printed on papyrus.

• Let’s look at the different parts of a book!

THE COVER

• The COVER of a book protects the pages. It also tells us the:

• TITLE (name of the book)

• AUTHOR (who wrote the book

• ILLUSTRATOR (who drew the pictures.

PARTS OF THE COVER

The TITLE is the name of the book.

The AUTHOR is who wrote the story.

The ILLUSTRATOR is the artist who drew

the pictures.

• The SPINE of a book holds the pages together. It has the title and author on it. It also tells us:

• The CALL NUMBER (where the book can be found)

• The PUBLISHER (the company that made the book.
