Dispel Stereotypes

STEREOTYPES vs. REALITY

7,000 Saudi Arabians fighting for Isis and 440,000 are active in the Saudi Arabian military.

Americans mistake the majority of Saudi Arabians are Radical Islam. In reality they are law abiding citizens.

The only form of businesses isn't the production and sales of oil. There are various things that contribute to the economy.

Cultural Similarities

Both the U.S and Saudi Arabia are very involved in the war on terror, specifically in combating Isis.

We are both very focused on education and use a twelve year education system.

We are both large influences on our respective regions.

We both have sustainable economies largely based on trade.

Solutions

• the problem revolving around foreign affairs with the United States and Saudi Arabia comes from the misunderstanding of religious views

• this can be solved by the United States interacting more with Saudi Arabian people in order to put aside false assumptions and understand Wahhabism better

• the coalition is a good step towards the end of terrorism but it needs to take the initiative in attacking ISIS rather than waiting for them to attack

Lessons learnedWe know now how to be conscious of our cultural differences because they

might be sensitive to some of our views.

With respect to their culture we have to press issues with what what we believe are not moral or ethical.

Making Connections : Anti-Smoking Campaign -“ Tobacco caused 100 million deaths in the twentieth century, and if current trends continue, approximately one billion people will die during the twenty- first century because of tobacco use”-More than 16 million Americans are living with a disease caused by smoking.

-Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the US, including nearly 42,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure.

-On average, smokers die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers.

-In 2012, $9.17 billion was spent on advertising and promotion of cigarettes more than $25 million every day, or more than $1 million every hour.

-1 in 5 adults and teenagers smoke
