Outdoor Education!

On Thursday 28th of February the whole of year five was travelling to Totara Park for our Education Outside The

School. We were learning about safety and survival outside of the school.

Mrs. Johnston’s class went with my class (Mr.WB’s) and Mrs. Roger’s class went with Miss Yee’s class.

Off we went to Totara Park.

Morning Tea

Once we arrived at Totara Park we sat down on a green tarpaulin and ate our morning tea. Once we were all finished we got into our groups. 1,2,3,4,5 and 6. I was in group three with Erikah, one of my best friends. Then all the groups shot off to their first activities.

Shelter Building

First up for our group was shelter building, we got put into groups of 4. In my group was, Erikah, Mia and Ella. It was very interesting watching other people build their shelters. I think our team was very cooperative and did lots of team-work together.

Cooperative games and Archery

When our group finished shelter building we went over to archery. Archery was one of my favorites. I was very bad at it but oh well. Cooperative games was next. I had a different group then last time and our team was not one bit cooperative. We played a parachute game that Tobi came up with. We also got have partners for one game. One person had a blind fold on and one person was guiding them with words.

Clue Find

Next up was clue find. Ngawai’s mum was helping with clue find and it was awesome. We searched all over the front of the park to find poles with a picture and a number on it. After clue find we walked back to the green tarpaulin to have our lunch.

Lunch Time!!!

For lunch I had nutella sandwiches and a fresh up can that I shared with my dad. I had a great first half and I couldn’t wait to finish the next half.

Bush Walk

Our next activity was bush walk. We studied natures and different kinds of trees like: The Hikitia, The Kauri, The Matai, The Pohutakawa and Totara. We did roly-poly's down the massive hill and it was mean. I felt pretty sick after it. When the activity finished I had butterflies in my stomach because next was Burma Trail.

Check out the different Timber:

Burma Trail!

My dad was helping on Burma Trail and this one was my favorite. We had to hold onto a rope that ties on to trees and that leads us into the forest. We had to have blind-folds on and it really hurt my eyes because it was so tight. We went once around and my buddy was Erikah. While we waited for the others to come me and Erikah sat down behind the girls cone. The girls and boys had a quiz on the “Burma Trail” and the girls won! We got lead back to the green tarpaulin by my dad so we could get ready for the end of the day. I really enjoyed today and I couldn’t wait until tomorrow.
