WHAT IS EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY?

The Educational Technology 2 meaning is that putting together technology into teaching and learning that will help us for our future and also for our education. The Ed. Tech. gave us the knowledge and skills so that we can become ideal users of educational technology. ET-2 will involve the computer as well as hands-on-application of computer skills.

WHAT IS ED.TECH?

The educational technology objective was to provide education in the use of technology in instruction;to impart learning experiences in instructional technology supported instructional planning;to learn to use and evaluate computer-based educational resources;to engage learners on practical technology; andto inculcate higher-level thinking and creativity among students.

Technology:Boon or Bane?

Is Technology Boon or Bane?•“Technology is in our hands. We can use it

to BUILD or DESTROY?”

• “A BLESSING or a CURSE?”

• “A BLESSING or a DETRIMENT to a person’s development?”

Technology is Banewhen:

The Users has an uncritical mind on image floating on television and computer that

represent modernity and progress.

Technology gets in wrong hands, the result can be dangerous and can simultaneously have

negative impact of human race.

The students surfs the internet for pornography.

Declining writing skills

Deteriorated patience

BAD EFFECT: LESS CONVERSATION, MORE ON CELLPHONE

BAD EFFECT:LACK OF PHYSICAL INTERACTIVITY

Technology Boon when :

Reduced risk to human life.

Revolution in businesses.

Onset of the digital age.

Communication redefined.

Automation

With cell phones web cams, you will be close to someone miles and miles a way.

Your teaching and learning can be more novel stimulating, exciting with the uses of multimedia in the classroom.

With TV you can watch events as they happen all over the world.

Systematic Approach to teaching

It is a “planned, SYSTEMATIC method of working to achieve planned

outcomes-a process not a product. Technology is the applied side of the scientific development.” (Dale, 1969)

“an organized set of doctrines, ideas, or principles usually intended to explain

the arrangement or working of a systematic whole”.

The systems approach views the

entire educational program as a system of closely interrelated parts. It is an orchestrated learning pattern with all parts harmoniously integrated into the whole: the school.

The teacher, the students, the objectives, the media, the materials, and assessment tools and procedures. Such an approach integrates the older, more familiar methods and tools of instruction with the new ones such as the computer.

Define Objectives(identify content) Choose appropriate, Refine the

process method, Evaluate experiences outcomes, Select

materials, Implement the equipment and facilities

instruction, Assign personnel roles learners.

As depicted in the chart, the focus of the systematic instructional planning is the LEARNER. 1. Define Objectives - Instruction begins with the definition of instructional objectives that consider the students’ needs, interest, and readiness.

Choose appropriate methods 3. Choose appropriate experiences 4. Select materials, equipment, and facilities On the basis of the objectives, the teacher selects the appropriate teaching methods to be used and, in turn, based on the teaching method selected, the appropriate learning experiences and appropriate materials, equipment and facilities will also be selected.

Assign personal roles – The use of learning materials, equipment and facilities necessitates assigning the appropriate personnel to assist the teacher and defining the role of any personnel involved in the preparation, setting and returning of this learning resources. 6. Implement the instruction - With the instructional objectives in mind, the teacher implements planned instructions with the use of the selective teaching method, learning activities, and learning materials with the help of other personnel whose role has been defined by the teacher.

Reading, Writing, interviewing, Reporting or doing presentation, discussing, thinking, reflecting, creating judging, evaluating.

Evaluate outcomes - After instructions, teacher evaluates the outcome of instruction. From the evaluation results, teacher comes to know if the instructional objective was attained.

Refine the process - If the instructional objective was attained, teacher proceeds to the next lesson going through the same cycle once more. If instructional objectives was not attained , then teacher diagnoses was not learned and finds out why it was not learned in order to introduced a remedial measure for improved student performance and attainment of instructional objectives.

The purpose of a system instructional design is “to ensure orderly relationships and interactions of human, technical, and environmental resources to fulfill the goals which have been established for instructions……

The Role of Ed. Tech. in learning

Educational technology is taught in school for the learners to come up easily in the modern

world. In this subject, the students can learn how they can use technology to have a better learning. It is one of the best way to integrate learning and information to ourselves.

Roles Of Technology in Learning

Roles Of Technology in Learning TRADITIONAL

LEARNING MODEL

Teachers is expert and information provider.

Textbook is key source of information.

Focus on facts information is packaged in neat parcels

The product is the be-all and end all of learning

Assessment is quantitative.

RESOURCE-BASED LEARNING MODEL

Teacher is guidance and facilitator.

Source are varied ( print, video, internet, etc.)

Focus on learning inquiry quest discovery.

Emphasis of processAssessment is quantitative

and qualitative.

Cone of Experience

“ The cone is a visual analogy and like all analogies it does not bear an exact and detailed relationship to complex elements it represent.”
