Opie Self Portrait Evaluation Beth Davies To complete my Opie Self Portrait, firstly, I used the magnetic lasso tool to trace the outline of my hair, face and clothing, making a new layer for each layer. To make a new layer, you can either click on the icon at the bottom of the bar on the right hand side of the screen or after outlining the key features (like my hair) hold down the Ctrl key and click the mouse in the centre of the highlighted area and click on “Layer via copy’. To do both my facial features and outline of the details on my shirt, I first created a new layer with the new layer icon previously mentioned. Then, I used the pencil tool to draw the outline of my features (using different a different thickness for each feature). In my opinion, I found drawing my nose most difficult as the positioning of my face made it hard to define the outline. I believe that my Opie Self Portrait was successful as it highlights the conventions of the ‘Blur’ album cover, which is what the initial task was. However, if I was to redo the task, I would only draw the nostrils without the bridge of my nose, as it is more conventional to the ‘Blur’ album cover.
