Introduction Online examination system developed in PHP and MySQL, is a responsive, easy to use, full-featured

and flexible web based application to conduct examination online. This application has been

developed keeping in mind, an institute which has various branches/franchisee and students in each

of them.

This Web based online examination system provides facility to conduct online examination

worldwide. This application saves time as it allows number of students to give the online exam at a

time and displays the results as the test gets over, so no need to wait for the result. It is

automatically generated by the online examination system server. Administrator has a privilege to

create, modify and delete the test papers and its particular questions. Students registered by

admin/centre, can login and give the test with his/her specific id, and can see the results as well.

The examination System provides complete functionality of evaluating and assessing student's

performance skills. Using different features of the Examination System, an administrator can set an

exam name, select an examination date, and assign questions for examination.

The examinations will form the backbone of the automated process and will play an important role

in random generation of unique sets of question papers. The more the number of questions the

better randomization is achieved.

It integrates and facilitates 3 modules, namely - Admin, Centre and Student.

Now we can create a question bank for each subject and choose a count of questions – to be

specified while creating exam – from it to be shown in exam.

Questions with Equations can be created in this version of the software using MathJax and

Latex

Centre

Manage centre (branch/franchisee)

Add / edit / delete/activate/deactivate centre

View list of centres

View profile of each centre

Each centre will have a unique centre id generated at the time of creation.

Configurable options while we add a centre are – Centre Name, Address, Email id and

password.

Few more details can be added by Centre itself, by logging in to the particular account. This

can be viewed by admin through ‘View Profile’ option.

Each centre is required to have an email id and password, which is used when the centre is

being added in the system. This email id and password would be used by centre to log in.

Student

Manage students as per category and centre

Configurable options while we add a student are – Student Name, Centre Name, Batch,

Father Name, Mother Name, Date of Birth, Address, Phone, Email id and password.

Batch time is important, as the student will be able to take up an exam only if s/he is logging

in at/after her/his batch time.

Few more details can be added by student itself, by logging in to the particular account.

Each student is required to have an email id and password, which is used when s/he is being

enrolled in the system. This email id and password would be used by student to log in.

Exam

Manage examinations as per category, sub-category and subject.

Now, we can have questions from multiple subject and define number of question to be

shown from each subject.

Configurable options while we add an exam are – choose subject and respective number of

question to be displayed , Exam Name, Date, Duration, Passing Percentage, Re-exam,

Negative Marking, Time reduction Allow if late login, Terms & Conditions, Result to be sent

on mail or not.

Re-exam, if set ‘0’ (zero) or left blank implies that particular exam cannot be retaken. Any

valid positive integer value indicates the number of days after which the exam can be

retaken. For example, value of ‘2’against Re-exam day implies that a particular examination

can be taken up again after 2 days.

If we enable negative marking option, then we need to add the number of marks to be

deducted if an answer is wrong.

Time reduction Allow if late login: This option if enabled reduces the time of late log in from

the total time available for taking up exam. For example: Student Batch time is 2:00 PM,

total duration of exam is 90 minutes and student logs in late, say, at 2:30 PM. Then the total

available exam duration to that student is 60 minutes. If unchecked/disabled, then the

student will have total 90 minutes of time to take up the exam, if s/he logs in to the system

between 2:00PM and 3:30 PM.

If ‘Result on Mail’ option is enabled, then a mail containing result will be sent to the 3 mail

ids – student, centre at which student is enrolled and to the Super admin whose mail id is

configured in settings of admin section.

An examination can have questions whose answers can be either Multiple/Single selection

type.

Only the students of centre, to which, exam is assigned, can take up a particular exam. We

need to assign the exam created, to the centre, for which it is intended to be taken up.

Please note:

ALL examinations created via admin section are Main/Final Exam, i.e. they are not

practice papers.

We can assign the exam by editing the exam created. Exam will not be visible to the

students unless it is assigned to the centre.

Questions

Manage questions as per subject

Add questions to an existing subject. This works as a shortcut method for adding questions

to a subject.

Settings

This section is configurable for various important settings of the online examination system

and has 2 sub sections – General settings and User.

General Settings section includes following configurable options –

Logo (This is for uploading a second image which you might want to appear

in your certificate that is generated online.)

Certificate Content (The content/text which you want to appear on

certificate that is generated online.)

Upload Signature on Certificate (This is the signature that would appear on

certificate that is generated online.)

Text For Signature (This is the text that would be displayed below the

signature on certificate that is generated online)

User section

Manage Users as admin with varied privileges.

Add / delete/activate/deactivate admin users

View list of admin users

Configurable options while we add an admin user are – User Email, User Name, User

Password and Permission

Selected permission/s will decide which admin area is accessible by that particular

admin/sub-admin.

Notice

Manage notice (message/mail which can be sent to individual/all centre/student)

Add / edit / delete/activate/deactivate notice

View list of notices

To send a particular notice to centre/student click on centre/student in the list of notices.

Select all/individual centre/student and send the message.

View Result

This section is intended to be used by admin to view result of a particular student of a

category (class/group)

Select a category first and click on search. Select a student from the list of available students

to view the result.

Click on ‘List of Result’ against a student will lead the admin to a page, which consists of

results of all exams taken up till date, by that student.

Further, click on view result against each exam will display the result of that particular exam

of the selected student.

Student

Manage students as per category

Configurable options while we add an exam are – Exam Name, Duration, Passing Percentage,

Re-exam, Negative Marking, and Terms & Conditions.

Re-exam, if set ‘0’ (zero) or left blank implies that particular exam cannot be retaken. Any

valid positive integer value indicates the number of days after which the exam can be

retaken. For example, value of ‘2’against Re-exam day implies that a particular examination

can be taken up again after 2 days.

If we enable negative marking option, then we need to add the number of marks to be

deducted if an answer is wrong.

An examination can have questions whose answers can be either Multiple/Single selection

Only the students of centre can take up the test created by it. This implies that the practice

papers created by one centre are not visible to students of other centre.

Add Question

Manage questions as per practice test created

Add questions to an existing practice test paper. This works as a shortcut method for adding

questions to an existing examination.

Notice

Manage notice (message/mail which can be sent to individual/all students of a category)

Add / edit / delete/activate/deactivate notice

View list of notices

To send a particular notice to student click on student in the list of notices. Select

all/individual student and send the message.

A centre can send notice only to the students who are enrolled with them.

This section displays notices sent by admin to centre.

Practice Test Search tests from available practice test papers on basis of Category, Sub - Category and

Subject

Click on ‘Take Exam’ to take a particular practice paper, from the available list. ‘Take Exam’

button can be of 2 colors –

Blue – This means exam can be taken up immediately

Red – This means exam is either cannot be taken up again or available to be taken

up after a specified number of days. A click on button will lead to a pop up.

If it says, ‘You have already taken this exam’, this means that the particular

exam was meant to be taken up once only.

If pop up says ‘You will be able to take up this exam after x day/s.’, this

means that the particular exam can be taken up again after x number of

day/s.

Once you click on Take Exam, you’ll be taken to the terms and conditions page of that test.

Accept them and proceed to take up the test.

If you are unable to finish up the test in specified time, answers will be automatically

submitted to server.

Result will be displayed after submission of test paper. The same can also be viewed from

‘Practice test history’ section.

Practice Test History This section displays a list of all the tests taken up by the student till date.

Click on ‘View Result’ to view result of any test.

Main Test Search tests from available Main test papers on basis of Category and Sub - Category

Click on ‘Take Exam’ to take a particular main test, from the available list. ‘Take Exam’

button can be of 2 colors –

Blue – This means exam can be taken up immediately

Red – This means exam is either cannot be taken up again or available to be taken

up after a specified number of days. A click on button will lead to a pop up.

If it says, ‘You have already taken this exam’, this means that the particular

exam was meant to be taken up once only.

If pop up says ‘You will be able to take up this exam after x day/s.’, this

means that the particular exam can be taken up again after x number of

day/s.

Once you click on Take Exam, you’ll be taken to the terms and conditions page of that test.

Accept them and proceed to take up the test. Before proceeding you might see any one of

the two colored buttons – a ‘Please Wait’ red color button or a blue ‘Start Exam’ button.

‘Please Wait’ red color button indicates that you still have some time left to start the

exam. Time at which you can start the exam is your batch time.

Blue ‘Start Exam’ button indicates that you can start the exam immediately.

If you are unable to finish up the test in specified time, answers will be automatically

submitted to server.

Result will be displayed after submission of test paper. The same can also be viewed from

‘Main test history’ section.

Please note:

Side panel will be deactivated while the student is taking up the exam.
