A settlement in the location of modern Negotino existed and developed in antiquity. Between 278 and 242 BC, a city was founded by King Antigonus Gonatas , under the name of Antigoneia. There are many archeological findings at the territory of Negotino. The town Negotino is formed in the late middle century as a craft settlement. In 1821, the rich bey Hadji Tair built a clock tower, a mosque and a covered market place with about 15 stores. So the settlment started to grow.

• In Turkish time , in Negotino lived a women Mara , who had eight children . Every day they asked for food, and MAra, who was poor , had to find a way to feed them. In the house she had only flour , eggs and a little pork. One day she made dough from flour , and stretched it from one end to the other end of the table . After that she put the meat sliced in small peaces, and on it she put some whipped eggs . She baked this and that is how became Negotino pie And if the pie was once synonymous of Mara’s poverty , today her recipe is Negotino’s tradition .
