Song ChoiceWhen coming up with song choices for our music video there was many that we came up with, these being; • Show me love- Feldt• Firestone- Kygo ft. Conrad Sewell• Lean on- Major Lazer and DJ Snake• King- Years and Years• Wont let you go- James Morrison• Listen- Beyonce• Love on top- BeyonceAfter deciding our song choices we started thinking of some narratives that we could include into our music video and started linking them to some of the songs we have chosen. As a group we decided that we wanted to use a slow song as it fitted better with some of the narratives we came up with. The song we finally made a decision on was James Morrison ‘Wont let you go’.

Also, thinking practically about the music video, we decided to go with this song because it’s achievable to produce a music video of high quality, rather than choosing an up beat house/pop/garage song that would be hard to get the resources for. E.g. lighting, people, suitable locations

Narrative• As a group we decided to base our music video around the theme of love and depression. • Within our music video their will be a story line of a young girl, aged 16-18 (who we haven’t

decided on yet) who has experienced trouble with her ex boyfriend and is afraid of being in a new relationship to be let down again.

• The male actor/singer will play the girls new boyfriend who’s letting her know that he will support her through her struggles and never ‘let her go’.

• We feel that this narrative will fit in well with 21st century as relationship breakdown and depression is often relevant to people in society today.

• Although the themes are quite intense, we still want to make sure that the audience finish the video feeling positive, therefore we want a happy resolution, for example the boy and girl hold hands. In addition, we can represent this through editing techniques such as filters on the camera or the lighting of the location at a certain time. For e.g. sunrise.

• We have played around with the idea of the boy becoming quite obsessed with the girl and the lyrics ‘won’t let you go’ being perceived as quite controlling but this is something that we would need audience feed back on.

Location ideas • The locations will be mainly domestic, e.g. rooms within a house such as the living room,

bathroom and bedroom. We want the settings to be quite plain and simple to reflect the themes of isolation and emptiness but also so that the performance can stand out more so that the storyline becomes clearer to the audience

• We also want to film outside in areas such as high streets (Kingston or London) also more rural locations such as country lanes and places with a field would make the video more personal to the audience rather than artificial studio settings. Also more rural locations evoke connotations of romance and soulfulness.

• Using resources from school, we can use a back drop which is black on one side and white on the other to get shots of the girl in a mundane environment to reflect her state of mind.

Actors/singer • For the male role we need someone who is confident in front of the camera who can work

well with the girl who plays his girlfriend so that a sense of realism can be developed. • It’s also important that both actors are mature enough to deal with the issues surrounding

the themes of the music video. • The male actor who is the main singer will fit into the age range of 17-19 and this will apply

to the girl as well. • We need someone who can make the audience believe that they are sincere and sweet with

their words in order to reflect the lyrics and not someone that appears to be arrogant and loud.
