Music Magazine Mood Board Collage and analysis

Reasons why BLENDER magazine stood out to me:

Font used for masthead and cover lines. They make the magazine look modern and current, therefore appealing to the younger generation.

The way words of particular interest are highlighted in a contrasting colour. This makes your eyes want to dance around the page looking at all the highlighted words but at the same time making you take in the information.

The way the main image of Katy Perry is overlapping the title giving it a slight 3D look.

From a marketing point of view, the main image is something to draw in potential buyers of the magazine hence the sexy image of Katy Perry who is feature in this issue.

This magazine is aimed at young men, it would appeal to them because of the content. Also particularly because it is a very gendered magazine, all the main images used on the covers of this magazine are of young, sexy, female artists.

Reasons why SCRATCH magazine stood out to me:

Bright colours used in Masthead and cover lines make it eyecatching.

Font used is very bold which also makes it stand out a lot.

In particular I like this font, giving it an urban, stencilled effect which seems very suitable for the type of music featured in this magazine.

The main cover image of a black ‘dude’ holding a mike in a laidback fashion gives a sense of recklessness and portrays the culture of hip hop music, giving the hip hop fan – potential buyer of the magazine – something to relate to. Also behind him the man on the decks gives a sense of the type of music covered in the magazine.

This magazine is aimed at young men who are possibly DJ’s themselves, producers or just general hip hop fans.

Reasons why NME magazine stood out to me:

The producers of this magazine have put a lot of effort into producing the cover. The main image has been manipulated heavily in Photoshop (notice the glowing edges also around the band) giving the end result a very eye catching look, the Font is very simplistic but very large making the main cover line unavoidable to the eye drawing you in.

Overall, this cover is full of items and rich in original design work; the graphic design behind the main image of Oasis
