2. Who is Morton? We are an urban district We have an alternative school for our students whohave faced expulsion hearing We have homebound tutoring for our students A large population of students who suffer from majorillness or our homebound for medical reasons. - these students often feel disconnected from classmates. 3. How Morton can create an online program to provide a quality Morton education? According to the APA- an online program shouldincluded the following components: 4. Ownership Teachers are the experts the subject and should be: Involved in the creation of the class Involved in the teaching of the class Involved in the evaluation of the students Involved in the creation of an administrative, student and parental support system 5. Defining a Morton StudentHow do we define a graduate? Our Mission Statement An online class should reflect the standards of ourmission statement We are not teaching students but creating life-longlearners Online learners will adhere to Mortons educationalstandards. Online learners can transition from the virtual worldto the real world of the classroom 6. Collaboration The departments will create the courses for each classunit. These classes will be a reflection of thetraditional classroom They will coordinate with other departments to createcross-curricular opportunities Department will coordinate with the administration toensure the necessary support network is in place forthe teacher and student 7. Assessment Should be student focused Students in the online environment need to beevaluated by process and product Students need additional instructor input during theprocess stage. 8. Clarity Broad but measurable assessment Teachers and department needs to be clear on what isevaluated. Same requirement should spread across classes withinthe department and across departments. 9. Good Course Evaluation A course evaluation will not just involve the studentand instructor More than student performance How did the class and method of instructioncontribute to student learning Set up criteria that others can also evaluate 10. Continuous Assessment It is essential to create an ongoing assessment ofstudent work This contributes to student learning, but also builds asense of belonging. 11. Needs Assessment? What if students need additional help? Who or how will this skill deficiency be addressed? Will this be part of the assessment? Does it need to bepart of the course assessment? 12. More than an A Assessment needs to be more than a grade More than the completion of a task We know what skills they have- where they are! 13. We are never done We are always evaluating assessment We are always improving Most importantly! We are always looking to do itbetter!
