Student Guide – IntroductionIn this guide you will be introduced to the basics of participating in an Anthem College Online course. This guide will help you and you can refer to it at the same time as taking notice of what is displayed on screen. As the course progresses, the emphasis will move from this guide to solely online activity.The actual appearance on screen is governed by settings on your own computer and as a resultwhat you see may be slightly different than that shown in the examples. Please follow the stepsin the order shown until you have completed the section on basic navigation.Entering the course websiteGo to your student web portal using this address www.stuwebportal.net. You will be required to log on. You may use the ‘Did you forget your password?’ link if you have not received a password yet.

After you log in, you may now sign into Moodle

Course BlocksBlocks are placed on both sides of the main course page and each block fulfills a purpose.

Course Blocks continued…Below is a description of each blocks purpose.

Messages : Here you will be able to view and send messages, search for and add contacts, and

view which users are online.

Contact Information : Anthem College Online contacts.

Learning Resources : Tools to help you succeed in your courses.

Tools : Records and logs all the messages you have sent and received. You will be able to view all

messages here, as well as browse user accounts.

Online Users : Displays who is online, or has been, in the course.

Latest News : Displays brief details of news added to the Course Announcements Forum.

People : Provides links to a list of all the participants in the course.

Section Links : Displays a link to each Unit in the course.

Reports : Links provide information on your progress in the course.

Administration : Links will display grade information and user profile management.

Calendar : Instructors may set due dates, and other important events on the calendar function.

Upcoming Events : Displays upcoming events together with links to view the calendar and

create a new event in the calendar. This block is set by the instructor and will vary by course. 6

Once in your course you will be able to create a user profile* You will be able to create your user profile in the online orientation link as well.

Step 1: Click on the Profile link in the Administration block.

Step 2: Click on the Edit Profile tab.

Step 3: From here you will be able to create and edit your User Profile.

Step 4: Scroll down, and you will see where you can add a picture to your profile. *Please make sure your picture is professional and appropriate.

Messages BlockThe Messages block will allow you to view and send messages, search for and add new contacts, and view which user are online.

Inside your course, you will see a Messages block.

Click on the Messages link to view contacts and messages.

Once you click on the Messages link, it will display the screen below..

Views messages, click here.

Send a message, click on the users name.

Adding Contacts in the Message BlockTo add contacts to your contact list, follow these steps.

Step 1: Click on the Messages link on the Messages block in your course to get to this point.

Step 2: Click on the Search link. Once here you can type the persons name in the box that you would like to add to your contact list . Click search.

Step 3: The search results will be displayed. To add the person to your contact list, click on the darkened silhouette next to the persons name. Once you click here, it will take you back to the main Messages page and the user will be added into your contact list.

Grades and FeedbackBelow is an explanation on how to navigate through your course to find your grades and feedback on assignments from your instructor.

Step 1: In the Course main page, click on the Profile link.

Step 2: Once you click the Profile link, it will take you to your User Profile. From here click on the Activity reports link.

Step 3: Click on the Grade link.

Grades and Feedback continued…

Step 4: The Grade link will take you to this page. Here you will be able to view your individual grades for assignments, the total grade for each Unit, and your total grade for the entire course. This is where your instructor will post feedback on your assignments so you know why you received the grade you did. *All students start their course with 0% and work their way up. So the more assignments graded, the more the percentage will increase.

Information on Course LinksBelow is a glossary that explains the links in your Moodle course, and the information you can obtain by following these links.

Syllabus Confirmation : You will be able to find information from the instructor regarding the expectancies of the course. *This must be completed to record attendance in your course. Course Assignments : Explains the objective of the assignments. Provides the pages of the textbook that will assist you with the given assignment. Gives you directions on how to save the assignments and submit them to your instructor for grading.

Announcements : Important news and announcements from your instructor. Should be checked frequently.

Introductions : This is where you will introduce yourself and converse with other students about their biographies.

Off-Topic Forum : You will be able to discuss off-topic material in this forum for the duration of the course.
