Art – Grade 5

JUNE 2014

Preparation

STEP 1. Establish the necessary testing sessions given the Lakeside Middle School/5th Grade

administration window. Ensure time is allotted in the schedule for make-up test sessions

prior to the end of the administration window. Obtain the necessary copies (test forms

and scoring keys) based upon students on your roster.

STEP 2. Review the administration steps and understand the guidelines for administering the

assessment, including materials needed, equipment, etc. Also, review the test form, score

keys, and directions to students (located within the test) prior to administration.

STEP 3. Establish a controlled testing and scoring environment and ensure students are afforded

appropriate testing accommodations.

Administration

STEP 1. Distribute the assessment to students, while maintaining a list of students who will need

to make-up the session. Say to the students: “If you have questions about any of the

instructions that I give you, please ask them before the test/performance begins.”

STEP 2. Write/post the “Start Time/Date” and “Completion Time/Date” of the assessment. Say to

the students: “Let’s prepare to start the test.” Ensure the demographic information on the

cover is completed.

STEP 3. Begin the testing/evaluation session.

a) Say to the students: “After you have completed the test/performance raise your hand

and I will pick up your test, read silently until the testing session is complete.”

b) Say to the students: “Remember to try your best on the assessment. If there are no

questions, begin the test.”

c) Ending the testing session. Say to the students: “The testing/evaluation period has

ended; I will now collect the tests.” Explain the make-up procedures for students

who need more time according to your district’s policy. Pick up all of the test forms

and secure the materials.

After Testing

STEP 1. Ensure 100% accountability for all assessment materials and store these in a secure area.

STEP 2. Given the completed test and the developed scoring rubrics, score each item based upon

the student’s provided response. Enter the raw score (points earned vs. total points

possible) into your grade book. Determine if the student’s score meets the performance

standard.

STEP 3. Once all students have completed the test, including make-ups, collect and inventory all

scored tests. Report student results in accordance with the district’s grading policy in

terms of percent (%) correct, and/or achieving a specific performance level.

DIRECTIONS FOR TASK #1 of 2: Read the task overview and then complete Questions 1

through 5 in the space provided for each. This task is worth 16 points toward your overall score.

You have 80 minutes to complete this task.

Task #1-Sketch a landscape using at least two, two-dimensional (2D) art materials provided by

your teacher. Your landscape should reflect historical and cultural details from a period of art

history.

1. Choose at least two, 2D art materials you will use for this task and list them below.

(0001.ART.GR5.PRE.SA-LV2-1.1)

2. In your drawing box on the next page (Page 4), sketch your landscape. Include at least two

major land forms, such as a body of water, a river, a cave, a mountain, a desert, etc. Also,

include detailed features such as flowers, trees, birds, a water-well, etc.

(0002.ART.GR5. PRE.EA-LV2-1.1)

3. Choose art historical and cultural details and add them to your sketch.

(0003.ART.GR5. PRE.EA-LV2-4.1)

4. Write a brief explanation (no more than three complete sentences) about why you chose

the two art materials you used. Include references to specific details in your art.

DIRECTIONS FOR TASK #2 of 2: For Task #2, build a model of your landscape sketched on

Page 4. You have a one (1) week period to complete this task. This task is worth 35 points

towards your overall score.

Task #2-Using what you know about the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design, build a

model of your landscape sketch. Think about the concepts we studied in class and the different

ways artists have created works of art that have focused on landscapes. Use color mixing

techniques to paint the model. Also, use scratch, wet, press, and seal techniques to create texture

and fit together each land form. Use the scoring rubric on Page 6 to guide your art work

development.

Criteria-

A. Build a model of your landscape with proportional breakdowns of land forms and features.

B. Paint the model using monochromatic or analogous color schemes on the model’s

surfaces.

C. Design the model to establish an overall mood.
